Thanks to a tip from 
DonCass, I now have InkScape, and my lines are soooo smooooth. Much more so than before, anyway! i might have to experiment with the other functions later.
The feathers in the fan, fires in the sconces, and fur pattterns will all be added in later, of course. :) For now, progress!
