Good luck to all, and thanks a lot Xerox2 and SkiesofSilver for hosting this fun contest!!

Some inspiration has occurred!
I've written a brief 1k word setup scene that could lead into pretty much anything. I felt that would be the best way to start; gives me a feel for the possibilities, without forcing me into any one path. The 'protagonist' who gets transformed is introduced, an 'antagonist' puts the transformation in motion, and a side character whom the protagonist irked enough to go with the antagonist's plan does her thing. I'm being vague on purpose in case the idea pans out, but I will say that a 'status change' definitely occurs!
Just need to figure out the best kind of transformation. Many possibilities... leaning towards a spider, a jumping spider to be exact, but there's still time for me to run through all my other ideas. A few ideas even include original aliens; so long as he changes into something tiny, female, and 'cute' (and perhaps something that lays eggs), as that's the only crucial variables that need to remain constant. Heck, it's open-ended enough that I could probably write many, many outcomes and then decide later which I like best. Try out various scenarios.

I tried to explain it in the rules: “Examples include stories where a character gains or loses control, reputation, rank, role, or position, but this requirement can be accomplished in many ways, and you should feel free to be creative in your interpretation. ”
Status as in a position in a hierarchy, formal or abstract. Change as in to decrease or increase. Does that explain it?

Great contest with exciting prizes. I just finished my initial draft of my story, but I ran over the word count. How firmly do you guys plan to stand by the maximum? I can trim a little in second round edits, but to make it under I'd likely have to drop a major transformation. Thoughts?
We plan on sticking strictly to the word count. Having said that, I often find that most tf stories I read and write could use a good amount of word count trimming. “Fill every rift with ore” is what someone or other once said. Every word takes effort to read, so I always make an effort to be as concise as I possibly can. Maybe it’s the case that if you go over your work with a fine-toothed comb, you can find some unnecessary words that the story wouldn’t miss.
Or should I say:
The word limit will be enforced, but you should try to cut the fluff rather than a sequence you enjoy. Most stories online do a poor job of making each word count. Make sure you “Fill every rift with ore” so as not to tire out the readers!
But in short: yes we will enforce it. :)

Okay it's pretty late here unfortunately so I don't have time to upload this on FA, here's my story on pastebin and I'm obviously going to PM one of judges as required. https://pastebin.com/UrXUugk8
EDIT: sorry realized I didn't put a link to contest in pastebin as required, is it okay if I only publicly share the pastebin version here under contest announcement? I'll be sure to link to contest when I upload this to FA, apologies.
