Look at this…

Can you tell if what you see in this reflection is the person you wanted so hard to be ? Didn’t you think about all that potential, and how it was wasted ? Between the infinity of possibilities, you landed on this one. I’m sure you told yourself many times : “And if I just didn’t tried hard enough.”

Look at those other people. They are successful, they are wealthy, they do extraordinary things like traveling where none had gone so far. They are amazing and inspiring. Their life has meaning…

And you ? What have you done ? Nothing significant. When you’ll die, you’ll be forgotten. You are just a small grain of sand among many others…

But look. Look at yourself. What do you see ? Do you see others in this lone reflection ? Are they so important to you, to your whole person that they flesh you out ? Did you live for them or for you ? Are other people… Relatives, friends, acquaintances, or even strangers more important than you ? Is what the others see of you is so important in your eyes that you try to become what they want you to be ?

Is that only what you are ? What you wanted to be ? Is that your purpose to become, or fail to become, a paragon, a mighty and admired person above all ? Don’t you think it may be a little vain ?

What is even your purpose ? To impress people ? To have a pretty and intelligent wife, a big mansion and a good situation ? Or a maybe countless litters of kittens to spread your generous attribute to the future generations as every animal thrives to subsist in the great Wheel of Time. In the end they would matter.

But have a closer look. What did matter in your life. What is the purpose you want to give to yourself,
to what you truly own. What do you thrive for ? Come on. It is an easy answer. Happiness. So. Didn’t you already choose ? Instead of glaring at what you won't become, look at what you were. Then what you are. And finally you’ll have clarity to see what you’ll become.

Your life wasn’t easy. But you did your best. Remember your failures, your shame. Don’t be afraid to look at them. Didn’t they forged you ? Didn’t they make of you someone better ? You may be proud of your earlier success. But the biggest is the learnings you made while suffering. Because you worked hard for those. You know those hardships made them well earned. And nobody can take it from you.
The hardest realization in your life was about that simple fact : nobody have the life they want. Everybody did their best with the tools they had. Some were luckier than others of course. But in reality, what matter is the choice you made.

So finally, look at yourself. Don’t you recognize the effort you made to become what you are ? Aren’t you shaped by your choices. Do you feel you’re satisfied about them ? Have you picked the fruits you took care of ? Do you feel happy ?

Then, here you are. You found yourself. So raise your head and look. Look proudly, far away, because your life isn’t about you only, but about the path you decided to take, one that cannot be marked by others.
