Xavier is a former geologist. During the expedition of his research group to the volcano, a sudden eruption occurred, the detachment did not manage to leave the dangerous zone. Lava cut Xavier off from his colleagues, leaving the man alone on a small piece of land. The geologist had already said goodbye to his life, when suddenly the lava rose above him, took the form of a huge male face and spoke. The creature introduced itself as Heilgan and offered Xavier a deal - life in exchange for a favor. The geologist had to help the stranger to free himself and get out of the volcano, and until Xavier fulfilled his end of the deal, he could not back down and leave. The frightened geologist, with a little hesitation, nevertheless accepted the offer.
Heilgan soon revealed that he was a magician in exile. The Council of Magicians, to which he formerly belonged, imprisoned him in a volcano for centuries of suffering for using black magic. The sorcerer wanted to become the strongest, but his actions did not go unnoticed, and he was sentenced to punishment. Heilgan could not leave the place of imprisonment on his own, but magical powers were still with him, so he was able to cast enchantments on the territory near the volcano. But the effect of his magic was destructive, the powers of the sorcerer made everything around dead and lifeless. Heilgan needed a henchman in order to free himself and take revenge on the council, destroying or enslaving it, taking all the magicians under his control. However, for the magic to be effective, the person himself had to agree to serve the sorcerer, so the magician offered a deal to Xavier.
Heilgan not only saved the geologist, but also changed his appearance, endowing the body with new abilities and characteristics, which include resistance to high temperatures, allowing Xavier to move freely through the burning lava. A lot of snake tails appeared on the man's head, which move independently of him, with the help of them the magician slaps a subordinate or, on the contrary, strokes his cheek as a reward. The henchman has a tail in the form of a five-meter snake-guide, through whose eyes he looks at the world of Heilgan and in the form of which the sorcerer communicates with his henchman, giving him small errands (Xavier can also look through the eyes of a snake). The geologist lives in a cave at the base of the volcano and plays the role of an ordinary scout, years of service and enchantments have clouded his mind, and he almost does not remember himself and his former life.
Despite the fact that the magician told his assistant a lot, he kept silent about one important aspect. If Xavier leaves Heilgan's domain, the spell will break and the geologist can leave, so the serpent does not allow the henchman to leave the volcano. However, these conditions complicate the situation of the magician himself, because the servant cannot fulfill his main purpose - to steal the secret manuscripts of the council.
