It had to be huge to fit everything on.
Gloomdog > sparkledog.
My attempts to do bright coloured sparkly things just never ever work. Even for sparkledogs, which are meant to look garish, my attempts look shit. Using clashy bright colours just doesn't come naturally to me. I find it really hard.
So I guess this half falls under parody, in that Im deliberately attempting to stick to the gloomdog look, but half not because I did put thought into the design and actually am attached to the character. I really enjoyed creating her. So its not just a throw away joke thing that I scribbled out quickly for a laugh; I will be using her as a character. But it kinda is parody.....if you get me.
Parody that I ended up liking.
I would never have made this character if it weren't for gloomdogs already existing, and it was a deliberate attempt to think 'well, if I were a gloomdog artist what would my gloomdog look like?
Because much as a lot of them are SO cliche and unoriginal and samey and, well, flat out crap, and much as some of the artists are whiney attention seekers who all think they're original when in reality they're all doing the same shit over and over, I do have a sneaking jealousy for people who can just draw these sorts of outlandish and unnatural characters so freely and easily.
Its hard for me to shut off the logic side of my brain when creating characters.
Im so used to drawing 'feral' rats or dogs where I just take their natural colouration and tweak it or over-emphasise it that I don't know that I have the ability to just shut off the side of my brain screaming 'THATS NOT HOW A DOG LOOKS! WHY WOULD IT HAVE MARKINGS LIKE THAT?! HOW WOULD A DOG USE TECHNOLOGY OR ACCESSORIES?'
So in that respect its kinda handy to challenge myself to do it.
So she isn't technically a dog, more a kinda gloom beast, but then most gloomdogs aren't really dogs, just canine things.
I crammed rather a lot of SAW references into her too, some subtle, some not so.
So, please bear in mind, she is MEANT to be garish and over complicated and unrealistic. Its a gloomdog; thats what they are.
I have no qualms whatsoever with her being snarked on anti_sparkledog or something, because thats what she is and I am not pretending otherwise.
Im not going to kick off about it; gloomdogs by their very nature are absurd, and if I've managed to capture that, so much the better :)
Roach/Rizrah is currently working on hers, so Delorian will have a friend >:)
