Just some old stuff, I think from back in October, that I colored up today. Paladin with boots of flying versus anti-paladin on wyvern.

Yeah, I don't like a lot of the new art which is good, but so much seems like generic fantasy - really self referential. The guys in the 800s or 1300s or whatever, their outfits weren't intended to be "I AM A HOT BABE" or "I AM A BADASSED ANTIHERO" and so on, they wore clothing and armor intended to not bind up under their arms or leave their chest wide open or whatever. I think it's possible to have more historical looking stuff, and still have strong character design -- even though I'm not that good at it.
When I was a kid, D&D got me interested in so much history and architecture. I kinda wish the art style helped encourage that.

Yeah, your last comment is right on. I've been thinking the same thing for a while now - I got into so many things through D&D. I was really encouraged by a lot of the articles in Dragon which pushed a historical take on things like castles.
Heh, remember the "Great Stoney" cardboard castle? I was fascinated by that - went out and read all kinds of books on medieval castlebuilding...
