NIZE HAT!!!
Decided to show y'all the ensemble from my steampunk Saturday Night...
Basically, the hat is a South African officer's model with a Russian badge and stock welders' goggles. The shirt is khaki, short sleeved, with British flashes on the shoulders and collar, a Danish (I think) flash on the pocket and wings from "Flash Gordon". Ammo belt (British, IIRC) and scarf from the old I. Goldberg's Army-Navy in Philly (along with the hat).
Also in the pic is a WIP steampunk ray gun from a workshop on Saturday (complete with backup minirevolver)...
PO Holland pointed out that I rather resembled Baloo in that pic.
The man DOES have a point, I gotta say...

Nonsense. All you need is experience. So, go to your local military surplus house, find an officer's cap that fits and just go bonkers from there! I mean, it took me fifteen minutes to put the hat together out of stuff on hand, and ten minutes of THAT was picking out a pin from my collection and pinning it on! (tough fabric on the peak of the cap)
As for the pins, scout out flea markets until you find something that you like. Add goggles from a local welder's supply house and you're done! :)

Nah here in DK Welder masks are a bit different... kind of like this http://www.primavvs.dk/images/5/501700010.jpg ... but... maybe i should get my own gear.... goggles shoulden be that hard to get, and... *mumbles to himself*

What you show is a professional full-time worker's welder mask. The type of mask Mitch shows is for a hobbyist suburban home-owner, or a student artist doing brazing. Welding suppliers (or even art stores or farming supply stores) might have the small ones. For students, the frame may just be cheap hard plastic, although the glass plates are sturdy. The glass plates are easily replaced, if you wish to have a different tint of glass.

I can imagine ("in these days of Modern Times") that one might have to take some caution moving the prop weapons to-and-from an event. Although I suppose most city police are going to have enough sense and instinct to know that the ballroom full of people in costume are actually people in costume....
