Many years ago, while I lived in another country, I had developed a strong bond with someone there. We talked about all sorts, ventured places together, even living together for a time. On one outing, no special or different from any other, we both were wandering around a forest preserve. Both of us were silent and save for our footsteps through the trees. Lost in our thoughts, but always aware of the other's proximity and our paths kept close to the other. Coming to a small lake, I found a long abandoned bridge, which had mostly crumbled away, the concrete pilings were still in the water, but there were large gaps, sections jutting out at odd angles. Immediately fascinated I leapt from one piling to the other finally settling on the last piece.
I sat at the end, grayish clouds slowly moving overhead, dark water underneath flowing silently past. It was a calming spot, a perfect area to sit and loose myself in lucid thought. I knew my friend was still on the shore, walking among the trees but she didn't venture out. Instead leaving me to my solace.
Many years later, she admitted to me that she had watched me sitting there, and wanted to come out and join me in that spot, to sit and silently observe, to share the proximity of companionship and friendship. It was a regret she carried to this day and to express her thoughts, she presented me with this rendering. Stating: "There is never a time when you're sitting alone that I won't join you."

[EDIT] On 1/25/11, we made sure to fix that regret. Despite the cold and ice and snow, we shared the spot and so now the memory fits the image.

Never before have I been moved by such a beautiful work of art, and the story behind it. The words you just spoke to me, the vision you gave me. I could feel your story from your eyes, her eyes. The world's choice of weather. The daring nature you have, in contrast to so many loves out there who keep themselves bound and chained in the homestead. The time-lost scenery. Seclusion. Everything about this story of yours has touched me, much deeper than I can say anything has in nearly a decade.
So real. Such a forlorn and bleak story, yet... Within, so loving and... Words fail me.
This brought a tear to my eyes, and a certain watch from one more admirer for your works. Thank you for sharing this with me, and the world.
