And now I have one of my Irkens redesigned, Neir! Other is Bo, though he's not a redesign :)

Tbh?? I met some amazing people on DA via drawing fanart IZ stuff back in 2011, and this show has been (an unintentionally) big influence in some of the things I've drawn my whole childhood and now. SO LIKE, while the hype is still going, FUCK YES, Irken time. I've been having such a blast lmao

Neir is not a canonical class of Irken, though he's sort of based on a Navigator/Researcher, calling him a Scout for the moment. He goes out and finds useful materials on asteroids, moons, and sometimes planets for Scientists of the Armada. He catalogs all his findings so they can easily be found again, and keeps maps of star systems he's visited. Any New materials, even organics, that he finds gets jarred up and brought back for testing.
He uses (now I havent actually taken my time to look up different vehicles, so for the moment it's a basic Irken cruiser ship) a really shitty old cruiser to carry his cargo around in. He's not super technologically savvy when it comes to repairs, so his ship looks like a metal patchwork mess and chugs along like an old car when he's flying it. The radio he has in his ship needs a violent smack or kick to get it to turn on or off.
Inside his cruiser he keeps maps, jars, samples of minerals and organic material he's found, snacks of course, and about 50 laser guns. The guns are used MAINLY for sample-taking, and if one he's using breaks, he'll just toss it out for a spare. Also with the guns thing, he's bad at ranged combat but will absolutely go feral with hand-to-hand and just LEAP onto something if he's zealous enough.
Is he defective? Honestly, I dont really consider him to be, he's happy with his job! But when I do more research on that (I have done a lot, I'm just a dumb robot with a shit memory) maybe that status will be changed. Who knows! I think it's highly likely that he's been sent to his doom a few times but has then just come back with actually useful shit.

Bo is a Guard who secretly would rather be a Scientist! His ultimate goal is to prove to his Tallest that he should be reencoded as a Scientist, though he fears the consequences of being reencoded as defective or as some lower rank such as a Service Drone. He's ambitious, yet would never let anyone question his data or his status, as much as it displeases him being called a "Guard".
Bo loves to tinker around and invent/improve machinery and weapons. Sometimes his tinkering gets him into trouble, for he's not as skilled as he could be, but he's improving!
He carries around a collapsible shock spear with him as is the standard for security, never missing a chance to zap those who get on his nerves or in his way. He's more skilled in combat than Neir, though is better with ranged than hand-to-hand (in which Neir would have the upper hand if he were to just leap at him, decided was canon lmao).
Is he defective? Shit I don't know lmfaoooo, I think it's more of a matter of "dont let the others know your passion " conflicting with his loyalty.
