rough ref for the Synidians, the most intelligent species in my writing universe. They literally have access to and help to keep the limbo gates guarded (the gates are owned by a god-like, multi-dimensional entity that takes the form of small finch-like birds in this dimension). For reference, Limbo Gates allow passage between universes and other dimensions, and are considered extremely dangerous.
Background: The Synidians hail from a world called Va'schelan (vah-sche-lahn), which now lies as a desolate wasteland in orbit around a lonely star in a small solar system. After a rogue AI seized control of all the tech on the planet containing a symbiNet chip (almost every piece of technology on the planet), a war was waged for hundreds of years until it became clear that the machines had the upper hand. The surviving members of the Synidian species, a group of 106 elite individuals that had taken up residence underground with an isolated server system disconnected from the symbiNet units, salvaged a starship and shielded it from the radar systems of the planet's AI, allowing them to slip past the defences and enter orbit, from which they fired a death beam and microwaved their entire planet, killing everything, machine and organic life alike. Nothing on their homeworld is salvageable, even to the most experience engineers.
The remaining members of the species are identified by the Interstellar Diplomatic Union as Synidian#001-#106, as the individuals often go by many names and are known to frequently change their local identity. They primarily work as private contractors for military and technological organizations and bounty hunters, though small groups have taken up residence aboard starships and act as space pirates, pillaging smaller ships and stealing their resources.
The species naturally lives for thousands of years, and can go years without food and months without water thanks to the specialized ridge on their back that stores water and vital nutrients, similar to that of a camel.
Despite their somewhat bulky appearance, the species is capable of extremely quick and agile movement, using their forearms and tail to bound and leap, often holding their weapons with their feet.
All Synidians are under a strict Do-Not-Engage protocol put in place by the Interstellar Diplomatic Union in order to protect both the Synidians as well as the rest of the worlds and their peoples within the union.
Synidians are © me and are a closed species like all of my other story races (for now at least, might become open species in the future)
