I still need to try and look up what this thing is. All I can tell you guys is it's normally one of the last things you'd expect to see growing in a heavily-wooded rainy sorta place like my general location. Looks like maybe it might be at related to an agave of some kind? Either way I'm presuming it took some knowhow to grow a plant like this in a semi-northernish climate like this.
UPDATE: Comment section has spoken. Definitely some sort of yucca.

That's a type of yucca plant. Not sure what kind as there are dozens, but definitely a yucca. They're indeed part of the agave family. Quite a useful little plant in survival situations, as you can eat the flowers (mainly when young) in a variety of ways, as well as the seeds. Even the flower stocks are edible when young. You can also make cordage with the leaves, and the roots can be used as soap, among a bunch of other uses the plant has. They're found all over the US and into Southern Canada, though I didn't know they had em over in Michigan. Neat.
