Remember the Qilin sketches from before? Well, here he is all fleshed out and ready to go on his base! This creature is called the Qilin (a.k.a. Kirin, Kylin, etc., it has quite a few spellings and visual interpretations). Of course, he's unpainted here, but I'll be posting the painted versions in just a moment...

You put such detail into it! Are you using polymers clay? And I am interested, but did you go to school to learn to do all of this?

This one was done in a polymer clay, although I don't really use this type of clay anymore. As for schooling, I've always enjoyed messing around with 3D work and clay, but was able to refine and learn a little more in art school. All the more recent casting and non-polymer sculpting materials were learned outside of art school, (with the generous help of fellow artists and friends).
