Name:
Varanus Infirmitas
Alias:
Hypnotas
Typ:
Reptile-like
Diet:
Carnivore
Danger Rating:
Moderate
General appearance:
Varanus Infirmitas appears as a muscular quadrupedal reptilian creature standing at 250 centimetres on average from foot to the tip of the head an average length of 540 centimetres and a weight of 3350 kilograms. Most of its body is covered by a leathery, wrinkly, thick and stretchy skin ranging from different shades of grey. The throat and belly are caramel in colour and transparent just enough to see the prey passing through or being stored in the belly. Along the neck runs a spiked frill accompanied by a set of scale-like appendages along the base of the frill. The same scales can be found near the base of the tail. In addition to that they have two tentacles growing on the shoulders. They have four shimmering pairs of eyes. While all the eyes always have the same colour per individual, there are reports of wide variety of eye colours. The most remarkable thing about the Varanus Infirmitas are the six illuminating orbs hidden behind something akin of eyelids swirling with all kinds of colours.
Behaviour:
At first it might not be obvious why the Varanus Infirmitas is classified as Apex-Predator in the first place, as they are not very fast, they are rather hulking and lack the necessary camouflage to stalk and surprise their prey. Instead they use the six orbs on their chest as lure like an anglerfish on ancient earth. We urge all colonists to keep their protecting goggles at hand and keep away from concentrations of Zitrinium veins as the mild hypnotizing effects of these orbs might cause accidents. In any case, once the prey close enough the Varanus Infirmitas either uses the highly skilful tentacles on their back to lift the prey into their very stretchy maws or cast their expandable tongue like a net over the hypnotized prey and pull them in.

Excerpt field debriefing Kyle McCobblesworth Day 32:
I really do not know what happened to [REDACTED]. One Second he was there taking some scans of some rocks we found and then there was nothing. Like… I do not know. It was like a bad night at the bar with hangover and everything.
Report Varanus Infirmitas 01:
It is not clear by this point why lifeforms with higher cognitive abilities are more severely affected by the light. In that regard, we are probably the best thing that happened to the Varanus Infirmitas. Preliminary suspicions and after questioning survivors, it seems that the orbs on the chest and their light cause some sort of reaction in the brain of the victim and on the unsuspecting bystanders. Any attempt to measure the brainwaves of the survivors resulted in nothing.
Accident Report Excavation Site Alpha:
On day 59 an explosion occurred at Excavation Site Alpha due to a sudden appearance of a Varanus Infirmitas. Witnesses reported that [REDACTED] was preparing some [DATA EXPUNGED] but due the hypnotic effects of the Varanus Infirmitas Orbs could not finish the necessary security measures. In the resulting destruction 6 worker died and so did the Varanus Infirmitas. While it provided us with insight into the biology of these beasts and later examination of the Zitrinium resulted in severe drop in quality and in some cases becoming completely unusable. Leadership [DATA EXPUNGED] CLASS A ACCESS REQUIRED!
Medical Report Day 189:
This is the first time ever that someone survived the encounter with a Hypnotas. Excavation Team Echo was running some test on some new heavy-duty equipment on side, when they were attacked by the Hypnotas. Apparently, Foreman [REDACTED] modified some Helper-Robots to attack the Hypnotas on sight. A lot of them got destroyed in process but managed to repel the beast in time.
In the events five worker got dazed and worker [DATA EXPUNGED] got completely wrecked by the hypnotizing effects of the orbs. First response team was quickly on the scene and transferred worker [DATA EXPUNGED] to the nearest medical facility in [REDACTED].
After extensive examinations of worker [DATA EXPUNGED] by medical director [REDACTED] he discovered very unusual brainwaves and raised levels of endorphins, serotonin and oxytocin. Tests were repeated after twelve and 24 resulting in the same elevated levels of the mentioned chemicals.
Interviewing worker [DATA EXPUNGED] revealed a severe obsession with the Hypnotas and the wish to return to the excavation side. Medication and extensive counselling were advised.
According to psychiatrist Dr. Blake there is much more going on than just increased hormone levels in the brain of the victims as in the past every attempt to avoid the effects of the orbs failed miserably where people deliberately want to be exposed to the Orbs as soon as a Varanus Infirmitas was around even going so far as to taking off any gear that was supposed to protect against the lights.
Medical Report Day 189 UPDATE Day 223:
Worker [DATA EXPUNGED] tried to escape the compound while on yard time and was terminated while trying to get past security.
While it is still Rough around the edges im very happy About it.
