Hi Soojimasu,
Unless working with purely abstract concepts, I tend to have a lot of references at my disposal for inspiration (it's a good habit!), though I don't usually follow any one particular reference all that closely. They're mostly just to help get me into the mood of the environment. For this, the composition was all my own. That said, if I do directly use one particular reference closely do watch for the source in my description(s) so you can compare the two! I always think that's fun to do (with full rights to the source, of course!).
That's not to say I don't have an advantage living right next to lake Michigan, where scenes like these are so very common. It is a privilege to see them in person whenever I please!
