Gauss frame was an interesting choice, one would think the extra arms would mess with running fast

I don't think it would make that much of a difference. When you walk or run, you swing your arms naturally with your torso shift. Left leg comes forward, both right arms move forward; Right leg comes back, both left arms come back. Seems like the center of mass would stay the same.
