So, a couple' things here;
1. I drew this yesterday and wanted to upload it then too, but then decided against it on account of it being my birthday and me wanting to relax with the mate. Yes, another year has passed and I was unable to do anything about it, so I am now 31. Woopdie me for surviving, I guess.
2. Now for the more pressing matter.
It has come to my attention that there's some people in my ... following ... who have been harassing other people about things they've said in comments on my work, more specifically on Forest Tails. I wont name anyone, because it's not important who was harassed, but the fact that it happened in the first place that angers me, because it is exactly one of the things that have been upsetting me about the community in the last year or two.
Apparently they got several notes from various people berating them for their comments, not only on my work, but also on other people's, so many in fact that they've retreated from commenting altogether for an as yet undefined period of time. As you know, I read all the comments I get and I reply to nearly all of them if I am able, therefore I know the comments in question and, as far as I'm concerned, they are all entirely harmless.
Now, I've had one instance of this happening in the past, where someone criticized my work. The comment was not the kindest, but it was still a constructive assessment of the quality of my work at the time, and on the page of the uploaded piece everything seemed fine. What I didn't know was that there were apparently several people who felt the need to pile a bunch of very hateful comments on this person (again in PM's).
I understand that we can get emotional about certain things. As stable and centered as I might seem to some people, there are topics and events that will make me cry or just outright furious to the point of exploding with rage, but it is absolutely not okay to undermine someone's right to self-expression and free speech, especially not on someone elses behalf and even more so on something as harmless as imageboard comments - on a furry site of all places. Our community used to be built around this very principle and you're making me question whether or not I want to continue counting myself among it's ranks.
Now, I've so far managed to largely avoid any massive bouts of furry drama. There's been a few close calls and scrapes, but most of those were personal and I would hope this is a status I can uphold, but I do feel this is something that needs to be said and I hope it also sends a very clear message to anyone who feels they need to berate anyone or become abusive on my behalf.
Cut. That. Shit. Out.
If there ever is anything I truly feel miffed about I will fight my own battles. I always have, I always will, and you're not helping anyone. All you're doing is undermining someone's right to speak their minds and I remember a time when this was not what we did in the furry community.
...
Alright?
Alright.
Back to regular broadcasting. Stay tuned.

This mob mentality surrounding a lot of people in the furry fandom needs to be stopped. It's gotten to a point where anyone who expresses an opinion deemed to be unpopular is immediately met with unwarranted hostility to the point of being thrown on block lists and treated like an outcast. I've experienced this multiple times. I'll leave some constructive criticism on someone's work, only to check back a few hours later and find that I'm blocked by a dozen people I've never met and have a bunch of nasty shouts and private messages I can't respond to polluting my notifications.
*runs over to the Ipoke and pounces the big lug* :3 happy belated birthday ya goof! :3 ^.^ keep being awesome!

I used to be like that myself, until one day, i cut somebody on the road (as in "traffic accident", the bumpercut, not whatever you might've thought.)) So the guy gets annoyed, and starts taunting me, what a blind asshole i am. (Which was harsh, but well deserved in that matter.
...and guess what? One of my passengers gone berserk on him, and they started a fight over it, which led to making the guy flee in panic.
I didn't receive any charges on that matter, but it made a hell'of'a lession to me, to keep whoever i give a ride to firmly bucked up and locked inside the car ))
So, dear "passengers", no matter how insulting situation is for your precious driver, let him decide on further actions, otherwise your blunt conclusions might get him into far worse conditions in the future.
Cheers

Happy Another Round Around Sun Day! I'm also 31
Your story reminds me of our ski-jumper who become kind of a national hero when he started to make success on World Cup Ski Jumping. He heard that some of his fans committed sending angry mails to his competitors, even treating them with death. He had to make a special announcement to his fans to not do it as it is not "in the sport's spirit" and just plainly wrong.
I think we have to take the fact that some of our fans may be "a bit" too fanatical

*hugs the iPoke tight, half-burying you in fox fluff!*
Happy belated birthday, dear heart! Hoping that, this short bit of trouble aside, you have a great year coming! My best wishes to you and to your family!
As for the matter at hand, I've been seeing behavior like this for the better part of a decade and a half, though oft-times it goes uncommented upon. It's been becoming worse year by year, and now is becoming the socially-accepted norm everywhere, especially here in the States.
Much love to you,
Mika

Sometimes the fans are worse than the critics.
It's good to see artists take a stand against this behaviour, I too have held back from giving constructive criticism only because I feel it might anger people that aren't even the artist. They fail to realize that without critique the artist will struggle to grow.
On the other hand, you also have the ones that think their opinion/personal preferences are constructive criticism. Because the artist drew different anatomy than usual, the "critic" believes it is his prerogative to inform the artist he doesn't like it to the point of threatening to unfollow them (Not even kidding I saw this happen about a week ago)
Either way, I do believe it is the artist that should fight their own fights, as you also said.
Happy birthday btw.

Yikes, fanboys on the internet are terrible. It's good that you're making a public call to quit it, even if a bunch of them are unlikely to stop their behaviour regardless. I hope all those affected by this harassment have used the tools available (report+block) to avoid and stop the people doing it. Furry drama is hard to avoid, hopefully it works out.
And yeah, happy birthday, good on you for survivng another year. :P

A really good and clear message, let's hope it reaches as many as possible. It's just a shame that it most likely won't reach those it is intended for, but mostly those who are already aware of what's right and wrong. Still, it's a good thing that you post about, credit to you for that.
Also, late happy bday :3

Happy late birthday Virgo. ((Alles Gute zum späten Geburtstag, Jungfrau))...( i practice old German witchcraft want me to hex them, with my Zauberstab???!)
...I only compare people on the post to political wings that have failed, but I don't PM them.
I took German in high school but got the grammar mixed up with the science of English, so I use google translate now to gespecken better.

Most people on this site are pretty cool in my experience, but there are a few who I've seen will go a bit mad when they think someone's threatening them or someone they like - even when it's just an innocuous disagreement or constructive criticism.
As long as we try to stay civil with each other and call people out if they try to take things too far, we should be able to deal with this sort of thing.
