So now back with her and this time I didn't forget the necklace I gave her. I'm going to just give a heads up that this chapter is a long one but it was something I wanted to do. To give Malana a real chance to shine.

Island Otter and Male
Fight Against Anger
A few days later after seeing Nicholas have that sparring session with the males of the island was when Malana began to put her plan into action. The goal was to prove a point and finally get the approval from her father Chieftain Ahomana that had been missing for so long. And the first part of it was trying to see if she could talk some sense into Kalea. The sea otter found the purple-eyed one by herself. The second female as usual was lost in thought, playing with the necklace Nicholas had given to her in her paws. “Kalea,” Malana said. The second otter didn’t hear her, so the first yelled. “KALEA!”
The said female was snapped out of it and jumped so badly her feet and tail left the ground while she made a strong churp sound of surprise. Whipping around answered who had shouted that. “Oh! Malana!” Kalea exclaimed.
“Sorry, but I need to talk to you,” the yellow eyed female said in the native tongue. Kalea could see her friend’s face was very serious.
“What is it?” the other otter replied in the same language.
“It’s about that guy Nicholas.” Kalea didn’t know what Malana was getting at and raised her eyebrows. “I think he’ll cause nothing but trouble.”
“What are you talking about? You’ve seen what he’s done for me and everyone else.”
“Yeah, but things and people can change.” The purple eyed female frowned at the other otter. “And even so we know he’s going to leave. You won’t go with him I know that. So why not just quiet what you’re doing while you still can?”
Kalea was now getting annoyed with her friend but this was quickly becoming a different feeling. “What are you saying?” she asked with a frown.
“I’m saying that you need to stop being with Nicholas. He’s no good for you.”
“You’re not my mother or father!” the second otter replied angrily. “Just because you don’t like him doesn’t mean you can tell me who to like or not!”
“And what about when he leaves? What then?!” Kalea went silent. Even though she knew it would happen, the sea otter hadn’t thought about that. “You’ll only get hurt in the end!”
“It still is none of your business!” the second female otter stated, almost short of a yell. Kalea normally never fought like this, but when it came to Nicholas, she was more than willing to. Her tone then became softer. “Besides… I’m not going to stop seeing him. I like him…” Malana took a step back, seeing that this was worse than she had thought. Kalea then glared at the other otter. “Now why don’t you go back to Remy? He loves you.”
“Ugh! No thanks!” the second otter stated. “I don’t like him at all! This is why I hate you and Leilani at points! You two always seem to get the best of everything! I get nothing!”
“That’s not true and you know it!” Kalea exclaimed. But Malana didn’t pay attention and stormed off.
“Then… I guess I have to stop him,” the sea otter whispered. It was for her friend’s sake.
How it started was slowly but increased. They were little things to piss off Nicholas. The fosky didn’t realize who was doing it at first but he quickly figured it out. At first the guy ignored it, but when Malana didn’t let up, this just came to a head. It started when the male was minding his own business when suddenly something hit him in the face. It was fruit and some that had been rotting. The guy managed to get it off with a snarl and saw Malana standing there with an evil grin. She had clearly been the one. “Like it?” she taunted in English.
“What the hell is wrong with you?!” Nicholas growled to her. “What the fuck did I ever do to you?!”
“All of it with Kalea!’ she shot back.
“What the fuck are you talking about?!” the long-haired male shouted at her. “I have had just about enough of this shit from you!”
“Kalea need more than you!”
“That’s none of your fucking business what I do with her! Now go back to Remy you bitch!” That pissed of Malana so much she actually attacked the guy.
“You…!” The sea otter dove at the fosky and he dodged her.
“WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!” went a voice the two knew quiet well. Nicholas and Malana looked up and saw Leilani, the captain, and the otter’s father standing there. The older male looked livid with anger like his daughter while the second guy had a confused look.
“You need to keep Malana in check!” Nicholas snarled. “She’s been doing shit to me for a number of days and I’m pissed off!”
“This your fault!” the yellowed eyed female yelled.
“ENOUGH!” Ahomana roared, causing the ones fighting to stop. He glared at the two of them before whispering something to Leilani.
“You sure?” she asked and her father nodded.
“He’s not pleased,” Leilani told the two. “But he’ll forget it if both of you either work this out.”
“Give me a fucking break!” Nicholas stated. “There’s no way I’ll do that by words!” He looked at Malana. “There’s only one thing to do. Let’s settle this like warriors. I heard you like fighting. So prove it by seeing if you can best me.”
“You think that’s the best way?” the captain asked. “Can’t you just let it go bratha?”
“Come on man, you know that’s not cool. Even she like me has honor. And mine has been hurt. The only way to settle this is by fighting.”
“Yes, you’ve got a point there,” the otter male replied. He shrugged and looked to the other sea otters. “Well seems pretty obvious to me that it is the only way to settle things between them. But I doubt anyone will die.”
“Fine with me!” Malana stated after getting a grin.
News of this quickly spread while the two who would fight prepared for it. Nicholas got a few weapons ready for this. Kalea actually came up to him with a worried look. “I heard…” she said.
“Yeah, everyone’s talking about it,” he replied after checking the end of one of the spears he would use.
“This fight… must you?” Kalea asked.
“If that means making her back off, I will,” the fosky growled. She saw that nothing could be done to stop this. Remy had no better luck talking with Malana about this but shrugged it off. A couple of days were spent preparing and then it became time. It would take place on one of the beaches. Besides Remy, Kalea, Leilani, the captain, and Ahomana, the rest of the crew, plus many of the other otters were gathered here to watch this. Malana and Nicholas were facing the other. She had a couple of spears and knives to use. He on the other hand did have weapons to wield to. But there was also a katana with a black hilt sticking up in the sand next to these. In addition there was another weapon standing up in the sand that was covered up by a blanket. Besides the sand there were a number of palm trees that were here that could be use along with big rocks. Nobody was really judging this fight. But it was Leilani who spoke.
“So I think we can all agree to not kill the other,” she told the two. “I guess you two should just go for as long as you want until one gives up.”
“Fine…” Malana growled, a spear in her hand. Nicholas had no weapons in his and they were standing within arm’s length apart. The otter then spoke to the fosky. “You dead…”
He didn’t speak for a moment. “But before we start, you’re sarong’s a little loose,” the guy said.
The otter glared at him before glancing to see if it was true. Nicholas moved fast and socked her right under the jaw which sent the female back. “Whoa!” Remy exclaimed. “He got one in!”
Kalea was stunned. “Now things have gotten interesting,” the captain stated with a chuckle.
“Damn it!” Malana thought in her head and recovered. She stabbed with her spear and Nicholas moved out of the blows. He then jumped back to where his weapons were and went for the katana.
“Enough of the warmup,” the guy said and drew it out. The blade glinted silver in the sunlight. Some who were watching wondered just how a spear like what Malana had would stand up to the power this sword had. Many in the crowd who had never seen such a weapon murmured on what it was. The sea otter who was fighting grabbed some knives and the two warriors slowly began to circle each other on the beach they were fighting while glaring at the other. The two then stopped and those watching seemed to be holding their breath. Nicholas’s right paw slowly went to the hilt and took a ready stance.
The long-haired male then moved and drew the katana. Malana also moved as well. The guy threw the sheath at his opponent who knocked it to the side with her spear. She then began to throw one knife at a time at him. Because Nicholas was moving, the knives missed him. The otter then stopped moving and took aim to throw another at him. The guy caught the weapon on the blade of his katana. With a grunt, he sliced through some of it, rendering the weapon useless. Malana saw that and her face turned to a snarl of her own. The otter and fosky came in with her getting the spear ready. Nicholas shouted and his blade came down onto the head of the weapon the otter wielded. She was able to stop the blade. There were tiny sparks that came off as the fosky pressed down. Malana grunted and slowly managed to shake him off with a shout. The otter spun around to attack again. The long-haired male moved back and struck once more. The two came to a standstill and then the guy kicked the otter back. She grabbed some of the fallen knives from before that had missed him and threw them at Nicholas. Out of the three two missed their mark but the last grazed his right cheek, giving him a slight cut. The guy felt it and with his left thumb whipped away some of the blood that leaked from the tiny wound. Malana slowly rose up while Nicholas took this pause to get his breath back.
“You know, I really shouldn’t have brought Kalea here,” the guy said. “But why fight it? In the end you and I are the same. No matter what we do we’ll never be fully normal.” The otter and him had matching grins for finding such an opponent. “Where we are right now… This is a place only those like us should be…” The guy got the katana he wielded ready. “Wouldn’t you agree… Malana?”
She didn’t answer at first but got her spear ready in her paws. “Come!” the female said.
The two did just that, beginning to exchange more blows. Nicholas and her started to use the surroundings to help. The guy even began to use the knives to help fight, even duel wielding them with the katana. But then the tide turned to Nicholas’s favor as his katana sliced through Malana’s weapon at the handle. Then he got the rest and the otter fell to the ground. “Not good for her,” captain said while watching this.
The female fighting was quick and rolled to her feet, finding a knife to use. “You think that will stop me?” Nicholas taunted her. “Then again you have a warrior’s spirit… let’s test it out even more.”
“I will win!” she declared and grabbed another knife.
“It’s going to take more than-“ The otter moved in and managed to land a hard kick that sent Nicholas back. He slowly looked up at her with his teeth bared.
“Stand,” the otter said.
Nicholas did and then had to go on the defense as Malana began to move like a dancer with her weapons. Not only were knives thrown at the fosky, but some of the spears to. But at points the weapons did collide while she held them in her paws. The two broke apart and Nicholas came in. He then had to dodge a blow that was close to getting him in the head. The guy rolled out of the way and then had to move again when another spear was thrown at his body. Malana had been waiting for this. Moving fast, she came in and struck Nicholas hard enough to make him drop his katana. The otter kicked the blade out of the way while he rolled on his side before coming back up. Malana came in and Nicholas moved, catching her weapon’s wooden part with his bare paws. “WHAT?!” she stated.
The female tried to get it back but the male moved and made her let go. The otter grabbed another while Nicholas took the weapon he had just acquired and got ready. The two clashed with their spears. While wielding his katana, the fosky had done moves Malana had been unfamiliar with, just like he was doing now with the spear. It was a fighting style that was real but the otter had never seen before. This fight had now become like a martial arts hurricane. There was no thinking; just action and reaction. Then Nicholas got in Malana’s defense and knocked her to the ground. The otter growled and rolled back on her feet. The two warriors exchanged a few more blows before coming to a standstill. Nicholas pressed his spear against hers. The otter gritted her teeth to hold the male off. She then grunted and moved her knee in. The male saw this and used his left leg to block to move to avoid getting hit in the balls. “Please…” said Nicholas. “This isn’t a bar fight. Have some class.”
Malana got him with a headbutt and the fosky staggered back. He responded with a jab to the otter that sent her back some steps. Meanwhile the ones watching were in shock and awe. This was quiet a fight. “Just look at them go,” Leilani whispered. She turned to the captain of the fosky’s crew. “Who are you betting on?”
“I’m going with two on Nicholas,” he replied.
“Alright then, then I’ll have to go with three on Malana,” Remy said. He looked to Kalea who had a worried look on her face. “You Kalea?”
“Wha… wait!” the purpled eyed otter exclaimed. “No! Stop this! Make it not go on!”
“Hm? Why not?” the coyote asked.
“Well… look!” Kalea stated, looking back at Malana and Nicholas who had come to a standstill again and were trying to hit the other. “It… it crazy! Stupid! I see this as only hate and not a fight!”
“Then why don’t you get out there and stop them?” Leilani stated.
“Uh…”
“You said you don’t like it.”
“I did…”
“Then go out there and put a stop to it. Really! Don’t worry about it, we don’t mind.”
Kalea looked like she was having second thoughts but slowly approached Nicholas and Malana. “Er… hey?” the second otter asked. The other two didn’t pay her any attention but were now trying to headbutt the other. “This fight… has it gone on enough?” The warriors didn’t respond. “Try this… talk like I do. It help me out it might for you.”
Both of them whipped their heads around and even Malana was able to say it perfectly with Nicholas. “STAY THE FUCK OUT OF THIS KALEA!” they shouted in unison.
“Err… or I do that…” the second otter mumbled in defeat.
“What did you expect?” the captain asked with a chuckle as her best friend rejoined her.
Nicholas and Malana then broke apart. “Remarkable,” the fosky stated as they were breathing and trying to get their breath back. “I never thought you’d push me like this.” The otter glared at him. “It’s no surprise though. You who are the sister of Leilani and daughter of Ahomana and Malina; but I think you’re more like your father than your mother.”
“How… how you know that?!” the female asked, caught off guard.
“Your sister explained it to me. I know all about what happened. I think I’m now understanding why you’re doing this. But what you don’t know is that this is a loss cause.” The two just looked across at the other before the female spun her spear around and took a ready pose.
“Did that make you angry?” Nicholas stated as he charged in. “Get angry! That will allow you to become unfocused! Let’s go!”
He came in and to his shock, he saw that she was able to stop his attack by also catching his spear with one paw. Malana yelled and struck with a kick and hard into his gut. The fosky staggered back while letting go of his weapon. He then rolled out of the way as the otter used both spears to attack. “You not talk about mother or father like you know me,” the female said dangerously. “You pay for that!”
The male glanced back at the weapon that was covered by the blanket. “Guess it’s time to use that,” he said. Nicholas moved and managed to get to it. Malana threw one of the spears at him, but the fosky was able to dodge it. The guy picked it up and from one end of the blanket a spear end emerged. But then to the shock of the many watching, the rest of the blanket dropped to reveal that this spear had been made with both ends having a sharp end to create some kind of double bladed weapon. Nicholas held it out in front of him to get ready. Malana came in and the fosky twirled the new weapon around in his paws.
The two met in a clash and the next round had begun. Nicholas was striking with both sharp ends and the otter had to watch out as she got some small cuts in this exchange. The fosky also began to get them as well. He then blocked a blow from the otter and kicked her to the ground. The male leapt back before preparing for the next attack by spinning his weapon around in his paws. Malana came in and her attacks were blocked. Then she managed to get a kick in. This was mostly avoided since Nicholas moved back but still felt it a little. The blows continued a bit more before the two came to a stop and glared at the other. Malana faked a strike to get at the long-haired male. The guy jumped back and up to a rock that was in the area. She was right behind him and struck again. The stone was big enough for the two of them. Their weapons then came to a standstill and the otter struck with a backfist that sent the male off. Nicholas landed on his back and grunted. The otter came down and the fosky rolled onto to his feet. The two were fighting at it again as Malana began to push the guy back. Then they stopped at another rock. Here it seemed the battle turned towards her favor. Nicholas struck hard but she blocked every move. Then with a shout, the otter delivered such a powerful blow, she snapped the weapon the male was holding down the middle with a strike. His eyes widened in shock and the female kicked him to the ground. The guy recovered and blocked her next blow, wielding both ends like they were separate weapons.
They exchanged blows and then the male got in a kick that she barely avoided. Nicholas spread his arms out in a pose to tell Malana to come at him. The guy then spun in and the two clashed. Then after some blows, the fosky ducked under her strike and their weapons came to a standstill. “Damn…” the otter growled.
“That’s right,” the long-haired male said. “You’ve put up a good fight. Who knew you’d go so far. But I can tell that you are finally beginning to run out of steam.”
With one move, the guy disarmed her and then struck with a punch in the face that sent Malana back and to the ground. The fosky grinned while those watching looked on with shock at how the male had turned things around. “Well come on then, Malana sister of Leilani,” he stated. “Stand up. You’re not going to let this all end with just one punch; are you kid?” The female looked up to him with a glare, clutching her nose which had begun to bleed. “Whatever it was you hoped to get out of this, it doesn’t seem to be going as you planned. You’re not getting anywhere. You’re just wearing yourself down. So what’s the idea now? I mean look at you. You’ve burned through the height of your energy. You’re not going to be able to put up this for much longer. So what do you plan to do? Continue this fight? Or finally admit defeat to me.” Her paw came away and Malana’s face twisted with rage, her nose still bleeding.
“Oh my, such a scary face,” Nicholas taunted. “Is that supposed to frighten me?”
“Bastard!” the otter snarled. “This game you play… TELL ME!”
“What game am I playing? Really? No… This game is all yours. I’m just better at playing it foolish otter. While you have pushed me in this, only now is it obvious who is better. You should’ve seen it when I sparred against the other otters here. And still, you thought you had the slightest chance of winning? Not a very good observer, are you?” Malana’s face remained the same while those watching, but especially Kalea were in shock at how Nicholas was acting. “It hardly matters. When all is said and done, this is nothing more than a childish squabble! And since you can’t seem to see it, I thought it would be rude not to point it out. It’s the nature of battle. Until you defeat what cowards you, you cannot truly become yourself! But, to do that, you must break the shackles that hold you down. Just as I have. Just as Leilani, and even your father has! We have all gone through the metamorphous you’re experiencing! From the moment you saw me sparring you wanted to fight me. Otherwise, how could you even move forward? Would you even know how? Are you afraid of becoming useless? Are you afraid of becoming ordinary? Or maybe you are afraid of being forgotten! Little John Bull, don’t make me laugh! You’re the one playing games! Look at you! Now I see how you are! Just a brat who acts tough because she’s afraid!” Malana slowly rose up, glaring daggers at him. “Now come on…” The fosky held out his right paw to her. “Show me what you’ve got left!”
Kalea just stared at Nicholas. She couldn’t believe those words came out of his mouth. And yet when the otter thought about it, the female realized Nicholas was right about Malana. The rest did so to when they thought back to how this all started. “This game you play is high stakes Malana,” the fosky told his opponent. “And you’re all in. You don’t have a single thing that you can bring to this that holds your name; do you? You’ve seen how fearsome I am in battle. And now… I’m going to tear you apart.” The otter still said nothing. “Well now Malana, shall we continue this dance?”
“Yes!” she replied, grabbing another spear. “This fight not over!”
“Don’t you get it?! You’ve been fooling yourself! Use your head; you couldn’t win even if you tried a thousand times! In the end, none of the warriors here weren’t strong enough! And if they couldn’t do it, you haven’t a chance in hell! You could face me every day for the next twenty to thirty years Malana… and I’d beat you each time!”
The otter let out a yell and picked up the spear that had fallen from her paws earlier to attack. The fosky dodged her blows before using the broken ends of his weapons to attack back. While this was going on, Ahomana looked on with sad eyes. Her remembered what his beloved Malina had once said about Malana. On how much that otter took after him and how hard headed she could be. While that might be a barrier that got in the way of things, Malana was still an otter to be proud of. A warrior at heart that would be perfect for protecting her loved ones and home. Despite her flaws and temper, Malana was someone that Malina was proud of to have given birth to like Leilani and no matter what, would watch over her like her sister. Nicholas in the meanwhile shouted out and managed to disarm his opponent and get her to her knees. Before the otter could react, he placed one of his weapons to her throat. This fight was over. Both were panting hard and bleeding from their small wounds. Nicholas stepped back. Then Malana did something that nobody was expecting. “WHY IT LIKE THIS?!” she yelled, tears running down her cheeks. Everyone gasped while Ahomana smiled sadly as he looked at his daughter who had fought. Malana hadn’t cried in years but couldn’t hold the tears back.
“Why things be like this?!” the female cried bitterly, her paws going to her head. “Leilani… Kalea… father… everyone else… They all better in life but me! I always am second to her! Never getting approval from father!” The otter sobbed in defeat, finally letting her frustrations and emotions out. She was so tired.
Nicholas chuckled. “Warriors do not cry,” he said and the otter looked up to him in shock. “Are these the tears of a little, frightened child?” The female’s crying stopped at his words. “Warriors do not cry over a loss like this. You became such a fearsome one because you couldn’t cry anymore, right? The death of your mother Malina was the cause of it. To stay strong for her memory. So learn from this fight and laugh Malana. Laugh that arrogant laugh of yours and remember… You fought well in this. And I forgive you for what you’ve done.”
Malana then heard the sound of someone coming and saw it was Ahomana. He just moved and brought her in for a hug. “My daughter…” he whispered in the native tongue. “You fought so hard. You really have your mother’s courage and fought like a true warrior. I am so proud of you… I feel I must apologize since your mother’s death how it didn’t seem like I paid much attention to you. But know that no matter what I will always love you…” Malana cried again, but this time tears of happiness. She hugged the chief back. Finally she had gotten his approval and love. Leilani joined the two and they all hugged. Nicholas smiled and the rest watching did to. Finally the family of three were back to how it once was.
Both the fosky and otter were taken away to treat their wounds first. While Leilani and her father took care of Malana it was Kalea who did with Nicholas in her hut. “Thank goddess…” she whispered when this was finished and hugged him tightly. “I thought…”
“Shhhh…” he replied softly while hugging her back and stroking her hair. “I’m okay; everything’s okay…”
With this, Malana, her sister, and father opened up and they became a true family again. Nicholas and Kalea talked with them as did Remy and the captain about many things including Malina. While Malana still didn’t like the coyote in a romantic light, she was much friendlier to him which was a huge improvement. They even spent time together. “You really fought well no?” Remy told her.
“You think that?” she asked as they were walking on the beach.
“Indeed. In my eyes you were really the winner of that beautiful.” Malana smiled at him.
But the thing that would make Nicholas feel more welcome in the tribe was what he did next. The guy went around to others asking questions about Malina and how she looked and was like other than her family. This included how the otters honored their dead. When he got all the information, the guy retreated into his room, working on something. Nobody knew what until the guy revealed it a week later. He called everyone, including his crew, up to a high point on the island that overlooked the sea. Next to the male was something covered up by a tarp. “I know how much Malina meant to all of you,” the fosky told them. Tala, the little sea otter pup that he liked watched him eagerly. “Well this is my way of not only honoring someone who’s special to you but I can tell would’ve welcomed me and my crew with open arms. Which is why I’ve made this.”
The guy revealed it and everyone let out gasps of surprise. What they saw was a beautifully made monument that was dedicated to Malina. All the items the sea otter loved in her life were at the base from flowers to objects. And there was a face of the otter herself carved out of wood and stone. “Oh my god…” Leilani whispered as tears came out of her eyes. Malana had them to and even Ahomana shed a couple of tears.
“It look just like her…” Malana cried softly.
“That was why I was asking question about her to make this for you guys,” Nicholas said. Kalea also had tears in her eyes as did most of the tribe. “She sounded like an amazing otter and after all that’s happened for me and you, I wanted to do something special.”
Leilani, Malana, and their father came up and hugged him, thanking him over and over again. Everyone could see how much thought Nicholas had put into this. In Ahomana’s eyes, the guy was more than worthy now to become a member of the tribe if such an occasion was needed. Leilani and Malana were just happy as now they had something to remember their mother by even more. Also they were like they had been when they were younger. And for Kalea, she couldn’t help but fall for the long-haired male even more thanks to this. He was just so kind and friendly; so strong, brave, handsome, and helpfully, while making sure people were happy. The two would visit this nearly every day while talking and opening up. Happiness was now here. And it seemed like things could only remain that way as the time passed by. But sadly, it couldn’t. For soon something was going to come up that would cause not only Leilani and Malana sadness, but it would affect Kalea the most with heartache and being sad.

So this will probably be the longest chapter for now. I don't know if something like this will happen again later. You might recognize some of the things I used for the refs for the fight. But soon we'll be getting to something really great even if there will be that sad moment first.

X
So this will probably be the longest chapter for now. I don't know if something like this will happen again later. You might recognize some of the things I used for the refs for the fight. But soon we'll be getting to something really great even if there will be that sad moment first.
