fayed89 for this lovely commission of my pissy bundle of snark.
I've been working on an intro story for my angry lil jalapeno in between other things, so I thought it was appropriate to give Vagrant a proper introduction.
Vagrant is a Symbiote born over three million years ago on Klyntar. Viewed as something of a runt on his home planet, Vagrant sought to find the biggest, baddest hosts across the galaxy and prove to his fellow Symbiotes that he was anything but weak. He constantly heard tales of conquest, heroism and overall badassery, and wanted to leave a mark on the universe greater than any Symbiote before and hopefully after him.
Upon hearing the constant tales of an old friend who had made the planet known as Earth his home, and just how much the others were buzzing like intergalactic bees about the mighty "Venom," Vagrant decided to give this planet a shot of his own. If his old friend could land such an impressive reputation, and be so well respected by their fellow Symbiotes, then surely, Vagrant could manage. So, he made his way across Earth, seeking out a truly worthy host.
Who he happened upon, instead, was a young punk vigilante crimefighter named Connor Lexington. And right away, Vagrant found the kids performance against overwhelming odds laughable. He could fight but he was no Eddie Brock. He was small, headstrong, and in way over his head. Vagrant watched Connor take a beating and then some, ready to move on. But then, Connor got back up for more, having already lost, but refused to give up, even with these bigger, badder thugs beating him half to death. Connor never showed fear, hesitation, or any sort of uncertainty.
The symbiote had to admit, the kid had guts...
...Unfortunately, he didn't have a bullet proof vest, so guts or no guts, none of it mattered when the leader of the gang put six rounds in Connor's chest and left him bleeding out in an alley. Vagrant was torn. On one hand, Connor wasn't remotely what he wanted in a host. Not physically, at any rate. But his heart, his determination, bravery, and his refusal to let his size get in the way left the Symbiote rather drawn to the young man. Perhaps, Vagrant could see a bit of himself in Connor.
Whatever the case, he couldn't let Connor just die, not after the stones he showed off. So, however reluctant, Vagrant bonded with the young man, healing his gunshot wounds, and binding to his flesh, creating a far more lethal and efficient vigilante. As one being, both Connor and Vagrant are a force to be reckoned with. Vagrant isn't nearly as strong as Venom, but he's still stronger than the average human, can summon sharp tendrils that act as both whips and blades, his flesh can blend into his environments like optic camouflage, and much like Venom, he's capable of swallowing a fully grown man whole...much to Connor's dismay...
Connor's a rebel. He has a big problem with authority and has been in and out of both juvenile hall and jail for most of his life. His mother abandoned him alone with his abusive father so she could get out when she could, and when his dad wound up dead in a ditch somewhere, Connor had no one to properly guide him in life. He was a deeply angry young man, constantly getting into fights over the littlest things, always taking stupid chances, and was never shy about stealing. But in spite of all that, he had an inherently good heart, never wanting to see innocent people get hurt, and with nothing in his life he deemed worth living for, he sought to become a vigilante, beating the pulp out of criminals both to keep people safe, and a little bit because of all that rage in his heart over his lousy situation.
Vagrant isn't much better. He's loud, crass, short-tempered, and cannot stand Connor's taste in music. He has a bit of a Napoleon complex. Constantly picked on by other Symbiotes for his size and for his choice in hosts over the millions of years he's existed, he has a bit of a chip on his shoulder as a result. His attitude also made him very unlikable and hard to befriend. The one and only friend Vagrant ever had was the Symbiote known as Venom. The two spawned around the same time over three million plus years ago, and were always close.
Though, in spite of their near brotherly friendship, Vagrant was always a little jealous of Venom. After all, Venom, like Vagrant, was viewed as something of a loser on Klyptar. Yet, he ended up becoming one of the most famous and most well respected Symbiotes across the galaxy, revered as a hero, and more importantly, an absolute badass. Vagrant would die for Venom, but he wouldn't wanna die without being viewed as more badass than his big burly friend.
Vagrant's temper is short...literally. The instant anyone so much as mentions his height, they'll be halfway down Vagrant's throat. All his life, he was incredibly sensitive about his size and he always makes it a point to remind Connor that he hates how Connor isn't bigger and stronger, constantly egging him on to drink milk and grow taller, or lift weights. In fact, despite the two being one being, they are constantly bickering among each other. Their volatile attitudes make them more or less like an old married couple with how much they argue. Despite that, deep down, Vagrant wouldn't want any other host, and for the first time, Connor feels like he has a real mentor helping him to be better.
Theirs is an unconventional friendship, and at times, a volatile one, but it's a bond not even the heavens themselves could ever shake.
Fun fact: Vagrant and Venom hang out from time to time now that they're both on Earth. Millions of years later, and Venom still teases Vagrant for his small size, referring to him as his lil buddy and fun-sized pal. Vagrant responds by trying to viciously maim and chomp Venom's head off, which never ceases to be the funniest thing in the world for the larger symbiote.
