Secret Garden Colouring Book Galaxy
I have a slight addiction to Adult Colouring books, especially the books by Johanna Basford... I have all of the books she has done that have been released here in Australia...
This particular page took a lot longer than I thought it would, but the galaxy looks pretty good. I probably could have used lighter and brighter colours for the flowers and foliage. I only did one layer of COPIC marker for the outside, because it’s so fiddly getting between the leaves and stuff.
Note: this paper is not great for copics. It bled through to the next page. But that had the biggest nib to cover more quickly. I know better now.
This was to help me practice my pencil skills, and it kind of did. The smoothness of the paper is different to the more toothy paper I’m used to, so working with that was its own learning experience. Blending feels different, and a bit harder. My upper arm and elbow got quite sore. My wrist to a small extent too. Which is not what these colouring books are for. I kind of treated it like a proper piece of art, rather than a way to unwind and relax. But Johanna made the books pieces of art, so I wanted to do them justice.
I have a bunch of WIP shots over on my Instagram such as a shot of my hand trying to hold all of the blue shades I used for the glaxy.
