And you say I make this shit up!
Not tonight, I actually got the faxxed order as proof, compliments of my boss.
I got this order tonight, during the start of the rush hour . I had to go through downtown, through the university, 6.8 miles one way for a lousy .07 cent tip by a college student.
I confronted said student as she came to the door, showing her this invoice that even my boss thought was a cheap as all hell tip. I asked her , showing the invoice. "Are you serious about a seven cent TIP!?"
The young lady sheepishly said "They charged me a dollar delivery anyway, and figured $1.07 was a good tip when you are just up the street."
I pointed out that Grubhub charges $1.00 fee, I don't see a penny of that, plus she was 1.8 miles past our regular delivery range and that we are NOT "Just up the street."
She apologized, told me she had no spare cash for a tip, but will make up if she orders next time.
IF she orders next time!
I lost a full hour on miss generous battling rush hour traffic plus the distance. I lost out on numerous and closer orders that the other driver got instead of me. Plus two of those closer orders had $5.00 and $7.65 tips.
I am pointing this out to everybody, especially of you use Grubhub, Doordash, UberEats or Eatstreet. These companies take 17.5% off the top from both the shop AND the drivers tip! If you use these apps...TIP THE DRIVER IN CASH!!! If you don't, tip appropriately and don't count that delivery fee as part of the tip, the driver never see's a penny of it.. And IF you can't afford even a tip to the delivery driver, or the waitress or waiter at a sit down place that serves your meal...YOU BETTER NOT BE EATING OUT!!!

I don't ever plan to use Grubhub or any other service. Some of them charge as much as $20 each delivery. I'll just get my ass out and head to the place instead and either eat there or take it home myself. Its cheaper having to pay the gas instead. Although if I ever get someone to deliver (Ex: Pizza, etc), I always make sure to tip $5 or more depending on the food I get. To hear that such services take 17.5% from shop and tip is the most greediest shit fuck I have ever heard. Taking tips only labels these companies as nothing more than a greedy non-human slime.
Damn.
A FoodPanda rider gets paid better than that!

jesus....some people don't know what it is like to work in food industry where tips mean life or death at times (quite literally) I don't use the apps myself but even the rare occasion I get pizza delivered I always tip nicely unless I cannot afford it then I will usually apologize to the drive and explain why.
I've never gotten a food delivery at home. Only the pizza place delivered, and at less than two miles away it wasn't even a 5-minute trip. When I worked security in New London, CT though, the deliver guys would fight over the run because they knew we tipped well. Whoever was taking the order would calculate it into what everybody owed. You don't wanna chip into the tip, pack a lunch, cheapskate.
20% people. These people work for their living, and most delivery guys don't get an hourly rate on top of their tips. Their employer doesn't buy their gas, either. And they can't afford to drive a Prius.

this redefines cheapskate, really.
in germany the hourly wages for delivery people and restaurant waiters are atleast high enough to exist/pay for gas, but still, if everythign is working out allright they deserve a tip, and I try to tip generously if I can afford. at least round it up more than just 07cents...
"just up the street"? surely she doesn't study geography.

Well, that's how it works. Work in a job that you get tips, you get tip wages (Federally $2.13/hr). Most states require that wages + tips equal at least minimum wage or more. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tipped_wage
Where rabbi-tom lives, that must equal out to about $11-12/hr, which in California, isn't much.

Yup the whole "gig" "economy" is all a scam.
It's all just a profits for corps plan.
Since any one working "for" those corps are all "free agents" they get screwed.
yay crapitalism.
When my computer tech friend does side work as an independent he charges a good rate plus "benefits" plus "profit". He doesn't get as much work but the work he does get is worth the time.

Yes, very bad. California created this bill (I think SB5?) because one particular port was calling all of its employees independent contractors. However, this affects anyone who is an actual independent contractor, because many of them will have to be classified as employees. The other side effect of this is Prime Inc and Swift ending its contracts with owner operators because that would mean they would have to classify them as employees. The trucking industry is very angry about the implications of this bill (Owner Operators in particular).
Nope auto bots are on the way right now. as soon as the big oil and car companies can figure out how to get more bux out of it it's inevitable with in 20 years at this point. the Big insurance companies are already pushing for it. it'll save them big bux and make them richer than trump...
