Ironically, I actually originally made this model for a goup of fans making a remake of the first game. Unfortunately they kinda gave up on it due to lack of time, so this is all the really exists of the project. But who knows, maybe one day it'll get revived again.

Did they have the rights to the Croc character?

Of course not, it was a fan game, meant to be released for free once finished. The risk of possibly getting shut down by the original owners might have contributed a little to the decline in motivation that led to the eventual shelving of the project. Though considering this 'franchise' as well as the company that made it has been pretty much dead for the last 20 years, I doubt it was ever in any copyright danger really.
