Do you have a tip for me how to draw light effects on characters? :)

I learn my method from looking at anime stuff and how some people paint lineless.

Usually just slap the "light area" first along with the background before I do the shadow to make sure the character is part of the background. Then I decide what kind of material is being shaded and determine how many layer of shadow it should have, like skin is usually 2 + gradient while shiny stuff like latex is 3.
