> I am halfway to the next outpost and it is getting dark. Normally, making a fire in the middle of the forest would be a dumb idea, but at least the territory I am standing on is clear of any insurgents. Plus, the weather in this region is cool, too cool for my liking.
Having set my gear down, I tear open a PK (Pagkain ng Kawal - "Soldier's Food") to feast on. The mixed meat strips have an odd taste to them, something like civet with what I think is a hint of prey snake or rat, and even have the texture of prey snakes, but they are enough to sate my hunger.
As I prepare to bunker down tonight, I reflect on experiences and why I do what I do. For now, I expect that everything will be alright yet again tomorrow.
