A drawing a found while cleaning, I remembered making this thing with my sister when I was younger.. so I thought I’d post it here. Here’s the description, which I typed up after I found it.
Volisirix (Lesser)
Height: 210.19 cm/82.75”
Length: 410.38 cm/161.567”
Weight: 1179.34 kg/2600 lbs.
Volisirix (Greater)
Height (Queen): 630.57 cm/248.25”
Length (Queen): 1261.14 cm/496.5 “
Weight (Queen): 3538.02 kg/7800 lbs.
Height (King): 525.475 cm/206.88”
Length (King): 1050.950 cm/413.76”
Weight (King): 2948.35 kg/6500 lbs.
The common Volisirix tends to live in colonies underground, most commonly located near underground lakes. While small colonies exist of around 5-10 individuals, most colonies are large, and consist of 20+ individuals, including the matriarchal Queen who leads and governs the colony. Kings function as guardians of the Queen and colony, and are slightly smaller, and often more aggressive. Queens are around three times the size of the average Volisirix, while Kings are about 2.5 times of the same.
Located in the belly of the Volisirix is a protective layer of Volirium, a precious metal commonly used in armor and weapon crafting. At the onset of their discovery, Volisiri were commonly hunted and killed, so much so that they became an endangered species. Though, conservation efforts were quick to take hold, and the species was saved. Cave systems like the Sara-Volvin cave system contain plentiful colonies, as a result of being a hunting free area. Nowadays, volirium is obtained mainly through discarded dud eggs.
Volisirix coloration is usually green and black, on the top and bottom of their bodies respectively. Queen Volisiri have a purple hint to them, to where it seems like they glow. Kings and Queens have uniquely shaped horns, poking out of their head to look like a crown. Their eyes are specially made to see well in the dark and underwater, but they fare alright in sunlight. Their tails are also covered in spikes, for protecting themselves. Instead of wings, the Volisirix has specially evolved wingfins made for swimming. Fertile eggs secrete a slippery fluid on the surface of the metal eggshell, as a sign that the egg is not to be discarded. This secretion, while slippery to most surfaces, fits comfortably in the curled tails of mother Volisiri.
In combat, the Volisirix uses its whole body as a weapon. In addition, they have access to magic. They prefer claw attacks, tail whips, headbutts, hipchecks, and wingfin slaps. They are adept at using water magic to enhance these attacks, and even use a ranged water breath attack. The Lesser Volisirix is not picky about how it fights, while Kings and Queens prefer physical and magical attacks respectively. All Volisiri share the common weakness of electricity, and they prefer to fight underwater.
Volisiri tend to eat a diet of mainly fish and minerals, the fish coming from the hunting parties of Lesser Volisiri Hunters (usually in groups of 3-5) that travel to the surface, and some fish caught near the underground lakes where they live. Other Volisiri, dubbed Miners, use their claws to burrow through solid rock to retrieve precious minerals and gemstones.
Volisirix courting habits are very theatrical, consisting of a peppy dance from the male to the female, employing bouncing around, wing flapping, and water magic. If interested, females will respond with a smooth, elegant dance consisting of strides, short hops, and water magic. Actual mating happens usually in the privacy of a den, or, in a very dire situation, a hastily made cover.
