Iris' next day of high school, she realizes the violence and dangers to her friend. So she gets an idea to protect him.


  The Chase

(AN~ it occurred to me that the chapters take so long because I waste some time thinking about the little unimportant details, they were the first few chapters. So I'm gonna make their routine specific and short as possible.)

At 2 A.M., Max unexpectedly woke up. Half an hour had passed and he was still awake. He was frustrated.

"'What's wrong, Max?'" He heard Iris' voice.

'"Oh, it's just, somehow, I'm wide awake and I want to be asleep."' 

"'Allow me.'" From his wide awake eyes, he saw a white glow. He felt very drowsy and fell asleep within 5 seconds. Iris smiled in her sleep.

In the morning, it was Iris who woke up first. She noticed Max was still asleep. She thought that she probably did too much of a sleeping spell. Her horn glowed and Max sat up fast and his eyes shot wide open. He turned his head to Iris who had a smug look on her face. "Somehow, you're much better than an alarm clock."

With that, Iris walked out of the room, Max got dressed and went to the front room to make breakfast and turn on the tv, only to see that those two things have already been done. With Iris smiling. "Thank you, madam butler." 

Iris smiled. A few minutes later, Carrie walked in the room. After that, Sammi. They all did their morning routines and went to school.

When Iris and Max just got in the parking lot, something was occurring in the class room. 

María was innocently reading a Spanish dictionary that she brings everywhere like a little lamb. When suddenly, she was shoved out of her chair. On the floor, she saw who pushed her, she recognized him as the same boy who asked her the inappropriate question the other day. Maria was confused, until he picked up her dictionary and threw it at her face hard. She held her face in pain. "¡¿Que estas?! What's going on!? "
 
"I'm gonna make you pay for getting me in trouble!" He said. He smashed a chair at her legs, breaking one of her prosthetic ones.

Debra noticed and tried to intervene, only to get kicked and hit with the chair. Lewis' attention turned back to María.

Bobby stood in front of Maria with a fierce look on his face as if trying to protect her. "Now you leave 'er alone! Ya hear!"

Lewis grabbed Bobby's face and shoved him, making his head hit a bookshelf. He held his head in pain as a little bit of blood started coming out. Lewis picked up a chair. "How would you like to have fake arms too?" María was horrified. 

Right when Lewis was about to attack, Max walked in. "Unicorn in the house!" He said to be funny. He noticed the commotion. "Oh, is this a bad time to be funny?"

Iris walked in and too noticed. Her horn glowed and Lewis looked confused and put down the chair. Debra tried to stand up but her leg was injured. The patrol officer of the school, (female, African American and Octavia Spencer's voice) "I got a call about a fight?"

"Yes!" Debra said in the floor in pain. "Lewis tried to seek revenge on my new students for getting him in trouble over a little thing that only HE is responsible for........... again!"

Iris spoke up. "And I stopped him with my magic."

The officer was confused when she heard 'magic'. She turned her head to see that a unicorn stopped the fight. "Well....thanks for your help." 

"You might need to take him in to custody while my magic is still affecting him." The officer though still confused about the new 'student' nodded and escorted Lewis out of the room. Iris noticed Debra, María, and Bobby clearly in pain. She walked to them. 

She kissed the back of Bobby's head. It glowed white and was no longer feeling pain, nor had blood. "What in the sam hill?"

She kissed Debra's leg. It too glowed and was healed. 

And finally, she walked to Maria. Who noticed that her face was in pain. She kissed the side of her face and it was healed. 

"Like I said," Iris spoke up. "I can heal wounds with a kiss and stop bullies."

"Well, that's a fine how do ya do!" Bobby said.

"Por casualidad, could you heal a broken leg made partly of metal and plastic?" María and gestured to her broken prosthetic leg.
Iris' horn glowed and María's leg was brought back together, completely fixed. "Gracias, amiga unicornio."

"De nada, amiga humano." Iris smiled. The class then heard screaming that sounded like Lewis, Lewis burst into the room holding the officers' night stick! A beam of light quickly came out of Iris' horn and Lewis was confused again but this time, he was holding his head like he had a headache. The officer again walked in the room. Iris spoke up. "That should seduce him for about an hour. That's the strongest I've ever done that spell in decades."

Debra then spoke up. "Sorry about that, Officer Jones! Sorry for having such a ruthless student!"

"No need to apologize, my husband says that he deals with a ruthless student at the school he patrols at, and he said that kid mistook April fools day for the Purge." Officer Jones walked out of the room, kind of regretting not using her hand cuffs.

María was still shook up about what happened, but another feeling she was having was stronger, that feeling was amazement by Bobby's selflessness. She walked to Bobby. "Pequeño chico, You.. tried to... protect me."

"Well, I had to. Normally, when I see somethin' like that happn', I'm more nervous than a long tail cat in a room full of rockin' chairs. But when I saw 'im attackin' you, I was madder than a wet hen! I had to do somethin'. I couldn' just watch 'im beat the puddin' out of you. You're. just as pertty as a cactus flower."

María smiled. "Well, gracias. And you're muy lindo yourself." She slouched down due to the fact that she was taller than him, placed her hand on one of his cheeks, bringing his head closer to hers, and kissed his other cheek. 

Bobby's eyes shot wide hska. "Oh my gravy!" His face was turning red. "I"m blushin' harder than a tomater in its underwear!" He's said while trying to hide his face along with cartoon sweat drops sprinkling from his head. María smiled and stifled a giggle. 

Max sat down at his desk with Iris sitting on the floor next to him. "Well, like I said last night, you made it easier for my friends and their problems." He witnessed the kiss. "And I think you just made a future couple, that I ship." He smiled

During class at Sammi's school, Sammi was reading her new book, while keeping an eye on the door. Sure Frank was suspended yesterday, but he was only suspended for the rest of the day, so she was worried. 

When the door opened, she was worried, but it was Officer Jones. He walked to Sammi. "Hey Sammi, I had a feeling that you were worried. So I came to comfort you, and I never got the chance to apologize for taking my eye off Frank. One minute I'm getting a soda from the teachers lounge, the next I'm dragging a demon child out of the library."

"It's okay, but, shouldn't you be watching Frank?"

"Oh, don't worry 'bout him. This morning, he got in a lotta trouble again. Apparently, he brought a switch blade knife and I saw it just pop out of his pocket. For a moment, I thought it was magic."

Sammi smiled. "This may sound weird but I have a unicorn friend who might've helped."

Officer Jones looked confused. "Huh, my wife just called and said that a unicorn helped stop a fight at the school she patrols at."

Sammi smiled and was amazed that Officer Jones' wife possibly works at her brothers school.

At Max's school, during lunch break, the posse were trying to get used to their new members. Two people with bad reputations.

There was awkward silence. McKenzie decided to break it. "So, what exactly do you do at lunch?"

Amy decided to answer. "Well. . . . . we usually talk about our day." She smiled nervously, despite enjoying being in a limo, she was trying not to humiliate herself so McKenzie won't say anything negative about her on her blog.

Trent, wearing a leather jacket, realized her behavior and spoke his part. "I hope you're not intimated by me."

Nate answered. "No! No no. Not intimidated at all! Heh." Amy could tell that her brother was lying. And under the table, in his hand, a fidget spinner spinning seventy miles an hour.

McKenzie realized she could say something. "So. . . has anyone been to Paris? It has really great malls. Fun fact, there is a law that every building should be less than nine stories tall so that the streets and residence can get a fair amount of sunlight."

Everyone was impressed by the fact., but remembered what she said about malls, remembering that she is spoiled.

Trent decided to say something as well. "Just to let you know, don't commit crimes, juvie is colder than you think, and beer is disgusting." Everyone was then intimated because they were reminded of why he was a little feared. Trent realized the mistake. "And what with my history, I had to prove to my mom that she can trust me, I helped the police catch a murderous catch a murderous drug addict with the help of powdered sugar." Everyone was then impressed by story.

Max realized something about one of his friends. "Maria? Something wrong?

María snapped out of hee stressed state. "Oh, lo siento. I'm just a little shook up from what happened this Mañana."

Bobby realized what she said. "I too am shaken from that. Felt like a feather during a twister."

Iris got an idea. "My magic can help with problems like that. And if my magic doesn't work, I have friends who can act as bodyguards. They are very strict about protecting friends. They have been protecting humans for over two centuries." Everyone was impressed when she said 'centuries.' "They fought in several wars, saved hundreds of lives, I'm sure they can protect you from many threats." Everyone was impressed by the story.

After that were done with their lunches, they walked out of the cafeteria, with Nate and Amy quickly walking away from the tail that intimidated them.

Bobby remembered that his courage earned him a kiss from a girl he finds quote 'pertty'. Since he was new at the school, his schedule was little and didn't have that much classes. He signed up for cooking so he could make a tasty apple pie like his mama. He signed up for mechanics to fix a tractor in the future. And now, he decided to sign up for Spanish class. He thought it could be useful in the future for his other interests and his big hopes in the future.

Outside of the school, Amy and Nate were relieved that the stressful moment was over since they were away from the two trouble makers. They were about to walk home, until Amy heard a voice. "Hey!" The two siblings turned around to see McKenzie. She pointed at Amy. "You're Amy, right?" Amy nervously nodded. "I was wondering if you could come with me in my limo and you could hang out with me?"

Trent was then behind her. "And 'Nate?' I was wondering if you could walk with you home?"

The two twins looked at each other in pure shock with wide eyes and cartoon sweat drops.

"Again, you have me to thank." The two looked at the one who said that who turned out to be Iris. "I thought that it would be for the best if you two could spend some time with your new friends." The two were thinking while the other two were just standing there wondering.

Amy at first was concerned, then somehow convinced herself to walk to McKenzie's limo which she was invited to.

Max whispered to Nate. "And if it helps, I'll come with you to keep that an eye on that guy." Max than convinced him.

Once Amy started talking. "All right, I don't know what your plan is, but I'm ready for any prank!"

"Oh, no prank in mind. I just theory that I could be with normal crowds, like you. I also thought being in a group with a unicorn could like, make me a better person." Amy immediately knew Iris had something to do with it.

In a car, María was again talking to her mother in the car. "So, how was today?"

"It was un poco aterrador. A matón attacked me just for making him ask an inappropriate question and getting him in trouble. He even broke my pierna. The lindo small boy tried to protect me. But a new amiga ayudado me, she got my attacker in trouble and she even fixed my leg."

Her mother was worried at first but was relieved about the boy getting in trouble, and was confused about her broken leg being fixed. "How did she fix it?"

"Well, it's complicado, you have to meet her to believe it." 

"So, the small boy tried to protect you?"

"Sí, he's muy valiente, he even called me more bonita than a flor de cactus. I even kissed his cheek as agradecimiento."

Her mom smiled.

And Bobby too again was talking with his mom. "Mama, I did somethin' brave today! I protected the Spanish girl from a creep who wanted to hurt her. I was braver than a kitten facin' a snake. She even kissed me! I also decided to take Spanish class."

His mom was impressed by her sons courage. And smiled when she heard the word kissed. "I suppose that kiss did somethin' to ya." Bobby smiled.

On the sidewalk of a street not that far from the parking lot, Max walked with Nate and Trent, with Iris walking next to him.

Trent decided to start this conversation. "So, did I make a good first impression? I wore my favorite jacket."

Nate was hesitant to answer. "uh . . . yeah! You did!" Nate was still nervous, but not as nervous as he usually is, because of Iris' magic. He was avoiding eye contact by looking at a church.

Max saw what was going on between the the two, he then decided to give a random topic. "So, I never knew how much my friends needed a unicorn. I mean, in a special ed class, life at school has been easy. But with you, my whole life can be easy! My friend Jason will love you."

"I made a lot of peoples lives easier." Iris said.

"Having A magic friend does make life easier." Nate said. Max looked at him confused. He answered again. "There are a lot of magic superheroes. Zatana, Dr Strange, Raven, and Scarlet Witch."

Max turned around and he saw something odd, a black car was driving suspiciously slowly on the street. And to him, the car looked familiar. He turned back and continued talking.

"So, speaking of magic superheroes, you really were one today. If it wasn't for you, Maria would've gotten really hurt."

Trent, while holding a skateboard, gave an idea. "If ya want, I can act as a bodyguard."

Iris gave her answer to his idea. "That won't be necessary. As I explained earlier, I have friends who can protect you from threats. They have been fighting in wars for years. Such as both world wars had Vietnam." The three humans were surprised. They knew that those wars happened before their parents were born. Iris realised their shock. "They are not human. So they can live up to a thousand years." She also noticed Max suspiciously looking behind him. "Max? Is something wrong?"

Max answered. "It's just, that car is driving really slow." The three turned around to to a slim car driving way slow. Even a car behind changed lanes just to drive past it. "It's like it's following us."

Trent spoke up. "If it's following us, then it might be bad news."

The car stopped!

Iris gasped.

Nate worried a bit. "To prevent a great tragedy and hatred like Joe Chill, head for hills!" Nate started running to that church.

Max, again, was confused by Nate's comic book phrases. "Joe who?" Before he could get an answer from the now far away Nate, he was pulled away by an unseen force! With a slide whistle sound effect. Max noticed that Iris used her magic to move him out of the way from the car that suddenly drove fast on the sidewalk that nearly ran him over! The car backed up to turned around.

Trent who also jumped out of the way now knew the car was bad news!

Iris said, "Like Nate said, lets get out here!"

Max realized what was happening. "As my grandpa is with movie spoofs and references," he mounted Iris. "Run Forest Run!"

Iris was confused. "I thought my name was Iris." 

"Oh just run!" Iris started runninin

With the car following them!

Trent then got an idea to earn his trust from his new friend. "Hey yo!" He yelled as he picked up a rock, and threw it at the car, putting a dent in the door! He knew that it would make the driver chase him, a person who's used to being chased instead of Max. Or so he thought. The car was still driving to Max! Once the unicorn and the evil car were out of sight, Trent walked away casually non-suspiciously whistling.

Iris ran as fast as she could under the speed limit!

The car was then right next to the fleeing unicorn. Max looked to his right to see the car! He also saw the dent that Trent caused. The window went down and an arm holding a metal bat poked out! Max noticed the bat, before being hit hard in the back three times!

Iris felt something and knew Max was in pain! She looked to her right to see the car was next to her and was hitting Max! She realized that the going under the speed limit wasn't a good idea in this case scenario!

Before Max was hit a fourth time, Iris sped off! She ran in a busy road in hopes of losing the maniac. But it was still chasing them!

Max noticed the car's erratic driving and was worried that he might hurt other people on the street. Iris knew it was a mistake and used her magic to change the traffic light from red to green. The cars that were stopped started going. She changed the light so the black car wouldn't crash into anyone, her plan worked! Had it not been for Iris, the car would've crashed into a car with children in it!

For about a mile, Iris raced through the other cars, running in between and pass them! The car was still chasing them! Disobeying several traffic laws, causing other drivers to brake and honk!

A cop in a police car noticed the black car, at first he was more concerned about the unicorn, but his focus turned back to the black car that was driving dangerously. He turned on his siren and joined the 'non-violent action movie' car chase.

When Max heard the siren, he was relieved that a cop was gonna help him. But the car didn't pull over!

Iris realized it was hopeless to out run the car. She got an idea. "Hold on Max!" Max did that. Iris' horn glowed and she jumped!

Max holding on tight noticed that the ground was moving down. He turned around to see a rainbow trailing behind Iris along with sparkles. He then realized that from Iris' jump and the help from her magic, Iris jumped high and far as if they were flying! Max looked down to see that they were above houses and buildings. Max turned back to see that the car chasing them finally lost them and was now being chased by the police car.

Max cheered and laughed as they were going through the air! Max was feeling excitement from the ride and the overhead view of the houses and buildings. Iris heard his cheers and felt his excitement!

When they were coming down, Iris easily landed in a parking lot of a small phone store with cement instead of pavement. 

The two took a moment to catch their breath. When an ache came in Maxes back. He groaned in pain. Iris noticed. "You're hurt!" 

"Yeah, I just got hit in the back with a metal bat three times." He hopped off Iris, and she kissed his back and it healed. "Who was that?!"

"I should have warned you, there are some people who have a cruel heart, cruel enough to despise unicorns and would go through any lengths to harm them and their friends. And if they have enough wickedness in their hearts, they're immune to my shield thing and non-bully spell. I should have known that there were still humans who have prejudice against mythical creatures. For decades, unicorns used magic so that the government in this country can accept mythical creatures. But just like with people of different race, there are still people who have a hatred to people who are different. I can only protect people with my magic, but if my magic doesn't work on people who intend to harm you?!" She looked distraught.

Max realized something. "Didn't you say you said you had friends who are protective." 

Iris realized. "Yes, and with the two encounters of violence? Let's go pay them a visit!"

"But how am I supposed to let my mom know I'll be a little late if I don't have a phone?"

Iris smiled. "Allow me." Her horn glowed.

Meanwhile, Carrie and Sammi were home. Carrie got a text. It was from an unknown caller. She read it. 'Max and I won't be home, we're visiting a friend.' Carrie somehow knew it was Iris.
