Eh, I feel the problem isn't that bad in the last 5 or so years, compared to, say, 2000-2010.
Well, I suppose that also coincides with me moving away from triple A gaming, and going more towards indie games and/or Triple-As that have been released 3+ years ago that I can pick up GOTY versions for sale for $20 or less, true.
But even still.
I've got a PC that's 6 or so years old and it runs several nice looking games at modest (not ultra, though) settings to this day and it's even not that powerful of a computer (even when I made it) since I tend to build bang-for-buck PCs.

Usually a lot of troubles come from a CPU that is bottlenecking your entire system, doesnt matter if you have a powerful graphics card. try to check it or see if you can overclock it!
Another issue i noticed personally myself is that more and more games are focusing on windows 10 and are half-assing optimization for windows 7. So if youre on windows 7 like me, soon it will be time to finally give up, as much as i DONT want to say it, and go on windows 10.

Time to grab the Ye'old Hamster wheel help boost the computers power output. (about 20 of them all linked together) Then grab our ultra fancy 3d glasses ya nabbed from the movie theater a while back ago to give you those fancy graphics!
But in all seriousness yeah, I feel ya. That's why I build my own rigs to last and I put a bit extra into them so i get about 6-9 years out of them with very little upgrading needed down the line. Depends on how long the CPU cooling fan lasts primarily or if I can get a replacement down the line. But over all I am happy with my gaming/art rigs for a long time.

I agree with Xylia. This isn't really an issue for most of the hardware. The only thing really making gains now are the graphics hardware. My PC I got a few years ago still plays everything on the highest settings. The only thing I've replaced is the video card. Replace the video card, not the whole computer.
Moore's Law is dead -- the computers of today are not appreciatively faster than they were several years ago.

Ahh the reason i never got into PC gaming until recently. I didn't like the idea of buying new equipment every couple years back in 2000. Today I got a medium PC rig and playing games 5+ years ago on very decent settings without hardly warming up the video card up.
Considering i'm happy with SNES graphics, i don't need ULTRA settings to be happy.
