some basic color plans that I also took the liberty of naming. I didn't cover all the ones I thought of, but I probably don't need to show them all, I think the "diablo" model looks promising enough anyways.
edit: the last 2 at the end are what I did after posting. the second diablo one is there simply because I worked on it immediately after posting and showed some tweaking. And the second one is there after some input by the commissioner. It looks odd because I tried fixing the shoulder/neck before I realized I forgot to put in a collar bone (fffffffffffff-).

While I was drawing, I did realize that one was the most realistic/convincing one, and it'd be a tough choice between that one and the "diablo" scheme; it would have probably won out in the end because that's the way I sorta keep imagining it in my mind.
However, the commissioner is leaning towards something in the "frieza" category (not like that is a bad thing; if I didn't like the design, it wouldn't have been the first thing I came up with). It is a solid color scheme as the character Frieza it is named from did have a pretty iconic design and color scheme, though admittedly it will be slightly trickier to transition to a super-evolutionary form in a bonus pic I'm planing. the base on the white scales will be way lighter when I revisit that design tonight.
