Hi all. Been a while since I posted...mainly because I lost interest in writing for a while. Recently though, something inspired me to get back into it, and I honestly couldn't tell you what. But whatever...here we are.
This is a little bit off from my normal work, since this is less fantasy focused and more of a character piece. I'm more than willing to admit that it's my weakness in writing, so I figured I'd work on it. With Maryanne and Cade, they're relatively shallow characters. They serve a purpose obviously, but they're pretty generic. So obviously I need conflict that really digs into them, and the only real defining trait they have is each other.
So naturally that's what I had to target. Whether or not I did a good job with this story is hard to say. I'll probably reread it in a month and decide then.
This is the clean version with all the sex and whatnot edited out (dA gets hissy over that kind of crude writing) so I'll be posting a full uncensored version here later once I've finished it.
Anyways. Hopefully you all like it. It was a challenge to write, and it did evolve over time. Originally, she hadn't cheated on Cade at all, but I felt a Mary-anne being a Mary-sue just didn't fit ;)

Glad you liked it! Not going to lie…the twist wasn’t really planned to be a “twist” haha. It just kind of happened. The idea was that said character would redeem themselves a bit by fixing what they broke, so to speak. And of course they have other motives, which will be explored in the follow up piece :)
Glad you enjoyed it, and you’re completely right. What I also forget when I write sometimes is that as nice as it can be for things to go well for the characters, conflict is at the heart of every story, and that idealistic part needs to come at the end, once it’s earned. It’s something I hope to better incorporate into my writing in the future.
