I saved a bunch of screen shots of this one while i was working on it so i plan on making a mini tutorial. But when i start a piece i use a soft edge brush and just poop some colors out onto the canvas, what ever colors i see. That way from the start i have some great pop colors. Also, when i make a still life i choose complimentary colors a lot; so a combination of those two things and a black background (or at least near black) really amp up the colors
Thank you for the compliments and i'm glad you like it :D

Excellent to read that! I will eagerly await the tutorial ;)
And no prob ;) my pleasure seeing your work :D
Also, thanks for taking the time to reply and explain me your process. I think your process is like this: for what I understand about this, you apply high values of the colors you see (the purest perhaps) and then mute them, keeping the pure areas the ones of interest. The complimentary is, I believe, composition-wise, hence to call the viewer's attention too. The black bg is a nice tip: I use dark ones when painting, but I use them since the beginning of the pic, as white burns my eyes X-D hehehe! Do you do that too?
I am sorry if my comment(s) is(are) too long ^-^; and I'm even more sorry if I am too bold to ask you for a favor? I was wondering if I could answer a couple of question regarding color? I know a bit, but you are way higher than me. Would you mind if I sent you a note?

heh, dont worry!
I prefer to not use a white background because when you finally do place highlights, having the highlight be the only white in the entire image really lets it pop. I think even when working in grayscale working on a midtone is better, because it makes the eye more sensitive to the changes in value that you see.
and yeah feel free to throw me a note any time, and ill try to answer and make some sense XD

Completely agree with the white use in the image :) The grayscale tip is a good one: I haven't worked with it (I use the colors and mix them to create the different values of the shapes, but I don't get good results, so I'll give it a shot to see if my color sensitivity builds up.
Thank you for that! :D I'm quite sure any answer you give me will be clarifying ^-^ I'll write in a few days.

Still life paintings are always a nice look into an artist's drawing ability, and I think yours is excellent. It's very realistic with a nice acrylic-paint look. And yeah, I can see that you put a great amount of work into that cutting board. However, the thing that caught my eyes was the glass of white grape juice/apple juice/...juice, and how it gives that distorted reflection of the onion bulb and leeks. Then again, shiny things always catch my eye. XD
The only thing that I can criticize, if I wanted to be nit picky, is the red onion. In my mind, an onion's skin is thinner than paper, very delicate, and transparent. The flakes on the cutting board and that piece of skin hanging above the onion half look to be as thick as flower petals. But, like I said, I might just be being nit picky. I'm sure trying to get this amount of detail would be well beyond my level of patience. It's an enjoyable piece, regardless.
