I had the idea that they might be doing a play to do the opera Carmen at the theater club, however when no good match for the leading role of the gypsy girl and Louis is so exasperated with the ones attempting to do it, he does a demostration that works so well that the opera is changed so the role of the gypsy might be done for a transvestie or trans-woman. Reclutanly Louis might agree if they could do something new for it, then when choosing the rol of the soldier that fells doomed in love with her, Don Jose, no other may be able to do it than Legoshi though he was just doing it by chance and very uneasy about it - though he may secretly already found out has a soft spot in his heart for the deer guy.
Later on Bill does Escamillo, the bullfighter rival for Don Jose, but he only acts and enjoys his manly brave role of the story, and Juno goes for Micaela, the peasant shy girl that loves Don Jose since childhood and actually was chosen for his mother as his future wife, and is very bitten later on on learning about Don Jose's bitter and self-destructive relationship with Carmen, and well Juno actually conveys the angst of the role, frustrated that Legoshi doesn't do anything with all her attemps seeking his attention.
During the rehearsals as they have to act and sing, Louis and Legoshi might end really improving his bond, and tough much early self-denial of Louis about Legoshi's early shy but then unexpectedly bold confession and attempts on letting Louis how much he loves him. he finally agrees and they got a great blast ending at the opening performance doing great all the roles, and during the curtain call in the end, Louis finally kisses openly Legoshi withouth shame accepting their bond together for becoming both Beastars thus keeping better the true balance between predators and preys relationships.
Carmen is a role for a wide-ranged mezzo voice, going up close to a soprano and quite deep into contralto too, however on fitting the role for Louis as the trans-girl, might choose for Louis practice and develop either a countertenor fake-high singing voice for it at the mezzo type (as the leading role for the Akhenaton opera) or set down Carmen's voice for a mixed ambigous neutral voice between the contalto female deepest voice and the tenor higher natural voice that Louis actually has (intended for being Don Jose early on).
Don Jose is a role for a tenor on a quite wide range going up into lighter lyric early on when naive before meeting Carmen and into full brash exasperated and angsty bitter dramatic-lyrical type for the darker ending of the story. Legoshi finds out that he actually has a lighter clean brass-like voice for full singing above his natural shy deep speaking one, which helps him doing better all the mixed feelings that the character has through the opera evolution until in the end, brokenhearted that Carmen spurns him for a new lover (Escamillo) he ends killing her by his own hands on a fierce struggling.
Escamillo is a role for a barytone or bass-barytone, a powerfull loud dark manly middle voice type, pretty ok with Bill's cockyness and brawsh nature, literally is a roaring tiger-type of manlyness as the bullfighter who later becomes the second love interest of Carmen as she gots wary about Don Jose.
Micaela is a role for a fully lyrical angelical-like voice of soprano, being she the total opposite of Carmen, as the good girl agains the wicked one the gypsy does. Juno might fit god on the role, dreamy and angsty, shy and well, the average good girl stereotype very loved by everyone (no matter if Carmen weren't a trans in the version or a true woman).
There is a lot of YouTube references for the story if someone liked it. That's my POV on how an alternative Beastars main story could have been too. (And no Haru involved in all perhaps).
