So Tony helps out an orphanage, huh?
As for the "Thoughts and Prayers" thing, I am still not sure what's so bad about it. Like sure, people should be a bit more proactive, but I'd never push people to do something that is essentially voluntary. That would incentivize people to turn their kindness into currency and further sense of entitlement (I offered more money than you, so that makes me a better person than you). People should do kind things because that's what feels right, not for some petty gain.
On the other hand, there are some people who essentially just go "Thoughts and Prayers" and that's it. Now, if they were like celebrities or other who went "TAP" and left it, then yeah, they may feel egoistical (and dumb too, ever heard of promotion through kindness? I know I said do kind things because it's kind, but it's my business sense talking here). That said, what if it came from children? Below poverty? From another country? Even if they are unable, I wouldn't say that these things aren't acceptable, cause they are nice to have and could help with spreading information to those who could do more. And even if there are more TAPs than there are actual donations, I wouldn't really complain since I expect more people to usually go " hope it goes well" instead of giving me something material, everyone has opinion already, it's only logical.
Honestly, this whole thing looks weird to me.

You make a good point there, donating should be done because you want to and you should donate what you can, not because it's a competition. Though sadly some see it as that, they see it as a "look I'm better than you because I donated 3 times you did". Sadly this kind of mentality is not uncommon among humans.
But I think the point of the bag is that there are people who believe thoughts and prayers are ALL that is needed to help others. Someone gets made homeless due to a fire "oh, thoughts and prayers" and leaves them figure things out. A mass shooting and suddenly "thoughts and prayers" without actions to help people. It's not always the case, people say that AND help. People say that if they are too far away and don't know what to do to help. But some people thing "thoughts and prayers" are enough, especially those who believe God will just wave a hand and make things right again.
I don't know, it's a polorising subject. There are those who don't like it because it's seen as lazy and uncaring and there are those who don't know to help or can't help due to distance and at least it means victims aren't forgotten. I think it's worse when rich celebrities do it because with their money and influence they can make a difference, doing thoughts and prayers and then moving onto their next twitter post, yes, is extremely egotistical. But for the average person who may not have enough or anything to spare, maybe thoughts and prayers are enough.
Unless, of course, you're not religious :) Bit difficult to pray if you don't believe in a deity :)

Even if that is true that some people believe that's all there is to it, that is like barking at the wrong tree. Or more aptly, getting angry at TAPs is getting angry at cheerleaders for the fact that your team is losing. They essentially "gave something" (admittedly completely and utterly useless something, but nonetheless) and it is treated with mockery. Furthermore, the only message I get from the mockery is that "why couldn't you do better?", which is why I get so confused. They didn't do anything, but they didn't hurt anyone.
If they were barring all donations to only allow TAPs then yeah, I would call for mockery and reaction. But then it is likely that the person doing it are extremists and/or completely stupid. Honestly, no need to get up in arms over people who aren't doing anything.
As for some specific examples like fire or shootings, well, what can you do? Some things just really require prayer and hope, for example making sure there are more survivors or that the damage has been de-escalated, or that donations and aid, which government already usually gives, get there in time. Other things cannot and should not be rushed to unified decision, because people are more than likely jumping based on paranoia and impulsivity. That could lead to bad decisions, such as how Germany decided they needed all the help they can get in saving their country, and inadvertedly created a Nazi party. These things can really be given Thought and Prayers because that's the best you can give without delving into complications.
As for you last point, I wholeheartedly agree.

Indeed, like I said, polarising subject. Some get very heated over it, some don't care. To some it's not enough, to others it's just enough. As you said, depends on the situation. A mass shooting, yes, TAP is probably the best thing. For a charity needing urgent donations to stay active and helping people, TAP is inconsiderate. A poorer person doing TAP means they are thinking of that person, a rich person doing TAP is selfish since they can actually help. It all depends on the situation, the person and the circumstances.
I think in the recent year with the shootings in the US has brought it forward a lot because you have one camp that believes there should be something done actively to prevent more shootings in regards to gun restriction and those who don't think the restrictions will work. You have the TAP v active decisions there. I can't say which is the better option since I'm not American and live in a country with strict gun control but in this instance TAP may not be enough. That is, of course, my opinion and I don't expect everyone to agree.
End of the day, I think sometimes TAP is enough for a situation and in others TAP isn't enough.

Alright, I see now.
Admittedly the gun control thing for me feels like the exact situation I'd describe, people could make good decision, by more are for direct action. Sadly though, those "calls for actions" are just as empty as the "Thoughts and Prayers", especially when they ask for things without thinking why.
The current climate is all kinds of crazy and, dare I say, utterly moronic. Partisanship on the rise, people put pettiness over pragmatism, and surface level details are given the same amount of importance as introspective theories and ideas. I am still baffled by the rather not even that funny meme about hogs that was on few weeks ago, even though I know for sure they are dangerous animals. I came from Moldova, Europe, and in my First Grade (when I was seven), first thing I learned is about the forest, if you see a hog, you're dead. These fuckers are vicious!
Anyways, I digressed a bit here. Have a great day!

problem with most is they think only on the physical side of things some times even knowing some one is thinking of you inspires hope to keep going. like the line saying "Hi" to someone could be that one word that keeps said person going and doing them selves in. some times inspireing hope is all you can do.
