9/28/19: SR CA/NV 88- Ah, a nice plant at the sign! (2/4)
posted 6 years ago Watcher, learner & scribe
It is not just nicknamed "The Silver State" It is also "The Sagebrush State." I would have thought this was sagebrush, but it isn't! Well, for this one, it is NOT a sagebrush as the state flower, Great Basin sagebrush, Artemisia tridentata, it is however, a native flower to the Sierra Nevada, I presume that this is Brewer's Lupine, Lupinus breweri, but not too sure. I did see this plant as light blue and close to light indigo/violet, but it has three leaflets (compound leaves) and they surround the flower in threes. I would have taken one, but I decided to let wildflowers be. If ever, I would gladly take as with a name that seems to have a lupine reference, I would have that as a scent for me! I do love such flowers-they're so pleasing to the eye.
If anyone is a botanist and comes across this plant if you are on CA/NV SR 88, do identify it for me.
