Ash was once a normal otter from the tribe of Waterlily. He(/they) was abandoned at a very young age, then adopted by foster parents and raised in California. For the first few years of his life things went fine. But his parents knew little of what he actually was exactly. A Waterlilian otter. Though they appear ordinary, Waterlilians are very rare and valuable outside the protection of their tribe. They have a rare trait, the ability to shift their sex (and eye color) based on mood.
This makes them a bit of a target for less than well-intentioned scientists, and at the age of 11, Ash was kidnapped by a shadowy organization. He was experimented on for many years to come, slowly turning him into a freakish mutant, the poor otter mixed with all sorts of different animal DNA, shark, spider, flying squirrel and more! Though the experimentation also did something else to him, it gave him superpowers! Namely teleportation and super-speed, which eventually gained him the nickname 'Zip' years later, when he was almost accidentally rescued one day by the OET.
