He looks mean, but all he can do is squeek squeek squeek :3
Not a whole lot to discuss here. I was playing around with my sketch pad, then decided to try some expressions that I normally don't. Certainly not as good as some of my other pieces, but I found this quite fun.

Actually, I ment the opposite. For a long time with my art, I thought things like reference were pish posh, something that would only make my my skills weak. So for a long time I didn't use any, I drew strait from my head each time I sat down. Though as I've grown and matured I've started to realize how useful reference art is and become much more accepting of it. It doesn't mean I need reference art to start a piece, but I find the ones which I use reference usually come out much better.
Art, at least for myself, is a learning process that doesn't seem to have an end. Sure I may grow in skill and become able to do things on my own, but there will always be better artists and I will never be able to compete with photos of the actual human figure. Because of this I embrace reference art as part of this learning process.
Keep in mind that when I say reference I don't speak about blatantly copying one's work. The reference I tend to use are multiple images of many different aspects of a piece. I think for the husky piece I had a whole folder full of them.

Hehehe, no problem. I think when I said "though as I continue to draw I become less and less worried about things like that", that I didn't really clearly express myself. What I intended to say is that I'm becoming more accepting of reference art. However I think when you read it it more seems like I'm saying that I need reference art less as times goes on, which is not what I ment.
Eventually we'll be looking at references made of references that goes so far back that it looks nothing like it's suppose to. Years upon years of inbreed art causing the thing as a whole to screw up and die... I'm just kidding! Don't give me the squeeking angry face! Nyuuuuuuu!!
Really though, I'm still dependent on references for something as basic anatomy, but I see myself using them less and less, because it's all starting to get burned into my memory... And that's all I'm trying to say! D:
