Whenever I see something like this happen in a zoo I wonder why they try to get the person back out, even harming the animal to do it. If it's an accident, sure. But if they climb in themselves, just let nature take its course.

I feel the same way, but sadly they usually kill the animals. Sometimes even after the fact, as in killing them after they killed the idiot who went into the pen.

Saving the person is a valid reason to hurt the animal. Killing the animal after the person is dead is less easy to justify.

I think the trouble is that they quickly decide we're food after they get a kill, which is the LAST thing you want in a zoo animal. Predators gonna pred.
