Inktober Day 3: Desecration
Inktober day 3. This time, the prompt was bait. I'm really proud of how this one came out. I decided to go with the Allure of toxic forms of spirituality. Please note that while it highlights some of my issues with the worse aspects of these movements, this piece is not intended as a mean-spirited blow against Christianity, the New Age movement, or neo-paganism.
This piece started as a clever commentary on New Age spirituality going against the grain of traditional Christian religion often only to replace it with ideologies and practices that are equally damaging. Such issues as toxic positivity, victim-blaming, and distasteful cultural appropriation. Then, the piece shifted to an expression of my personal frustration at having had spirituality leveraged against me as a tool of manipulation. The way those who label themselves psychic have a lot of easily abusable power over the people who trust them. Then, it ultimately degenerated to handsome coyote boy vandalizes a church and sits on the consecration table. . . and probably feels no remorse while doing so.
Also, holy smokes it is so obvious that I don't really practice drawing male characters lmao.
