Furs in your universe were originally created for the purpose of being super soldiers, right? I could easily see a genetically engineered super-soldier having substantially greater bone density than human average, more efficient muscles (and a lowered production of the hormone that regulates muscle growth), and potentially anatomy altered to be better able to support carrying a lot of weight.
So given the lore of the universe being able to support tig ol bitties of that size seems reasonable, though having them would be harder to explain unless there were less... military practical alterations made to the design after the military started the project.
