as conceived, these are magical mythical creatures that sailors and wanderers have seen on some distant islands. at the same time only 4 such creatures live in the world - 2 Northern and 2 Southern marine dogs, they differ in colors and some anatomical features. on art you cn see the Northern variant.

they can live very long, centuries, and hatch from an egg. animals are hermaphroditic, so everyone can lay eggs. the life cycle is such that, hatching from an egg, the animal lives underwater until it grows up, lays an egg there, and after that it goes to land, swims in different oceans and can make small flights. the Northern can be seen in colder places, the Southern - in warmer, respectively. after death, the body decomposes very quickly, turning into a jelly-like mass, and then completely into sea water. at the time of the death of one, the next hatches from the egg, and so the egg can lie for a very long time somewhere in the depths of the ocean, while the current animal lives. it can also lie farther after the death of the animal, until conditions favorable for the future beast come. animals feel each other and situations when one of them is in danger, and can help each other.

there are legends that they set the mood for the sea, and can both help the lost wanderers and deprive them of any chance of salvation
