Was the livestream worth to spend 24 hours just to reveal a new galarian subspecies? Probably not but wild life footage is that entertaining in a long run so I give them kudos for the realistic approach.
And for the good or the bad they got the attention they wanted so it worked. Marketing gimmicks to the finest.
