Acting on a bad tip, I buy one of the worst movies in my recent viewing experience. I overeact... 'nuff said.

Yeah, in my opinion Adam Sandler is very hit and miss, and mostly miss. The only one of his movies out of those I've seen that I actually enjoyed was Happy Gilmore. It's not nearly as obnoxious and stupid as most of his work.
But then, for your bad experience, I'd more likely lay the blame on Disney's head rather than Sandler's. As you said, "The real-world background – Sander’s career, his relationships – was dull, cluttered with disgustingly cute kids, and brimmed over with heartfelt family values. I nearly bit my finger off, it was down my throat so much of the time." Sounds like a pretty standard late-era Disney "family" movie to me.
I quite liked Transformers, despite MichaelBaySplosions and it not being the most cerebral movie out there.

If your system (like most) isn't bundled with MS Word, then all you have is WordPad. While WordPad will read RTF, it will simply crash if you attempt to load anything above Word 6.0 .DOC files (which may or may not still be a save option in current versions of Word).
Actually, I should have said "most windows systems" rather than "yours". Rich text format is considered mostly universal. Word 97 was the first version of Word that defaulted to saving files in a variant of .DOC that couldn't be opened by users with older versions (Word 6.0 and earlier) or the generic WordPad included in all Windows installs.
Saving text files in Word 6 .DOC files makes them readable by pretty much anyone with Windows. Using RTF will let everyone else in on the party.

I do like "Happy Gilmore" only to see a Bob Barker fistfight.
"Punch Drunk Love" and "Reign Over Me" are two dramatic Sandler performances that the critics seem to appreciate. Haven't viewed those yet.
Haven't seen "Eight Crazy Nights"...the reviews weren't too kind.

Blockbuster Video usually have special sales during holiday periods all year around.
What was 2 Previously viewed DVDs ($14.99) for $20.00 for non-holiday weeks becomes 3 for $20. The 4 PVT DVDs ($9.99 and under) for $20 offer is ongoing. Most discs are still in good playable condition!
With Blockbuster losing out to Netflix, take advantage of its brick and mortar stores while they remain open...
Nice animated DVD pick-ups "Bolt", "Monsters and Aliens", "Bee Movie" sans most bonus features.

Agreed. I prefer to look at the dvd cover boxes up close at the stores to determine if this is a flick I want to rent or purchased previously viewed. I just might find a "direct-to-dvd" release worth seeing.
Hollywood Video (aka Movie Gallery in some parts of the US) closed all of their stores in my city and in the cities close by. The nearest one still open in about 40 miles away.
There are about 8 Blockbuster stores still operating within my city...2 close to my residence. About 6 Blockbuster stores shut down last year...good deals in selling off their stock...got the full "Star Trek" movie set (Shatner and Stewart's crews) for $5 per disc box among other goodies.

The "in" sound from way out.
Most of the music stores in my neck of the woods shut down.
RIP Tower Records, Musicland/Sam Goody,
The Wherehouse
a few FYE branches are still around in some malls.
Amazon has good prices and no sales tax. There are a few used music shops close by...nice selection for LPs...scratch DJs forbid.

SOME vinyl records sound better tha most CDs. But I've played some pretty crappy vinyl records in my day. They were getting really bad in the last few years, then abrupty the average quality seemed to go way up, just before the end! (In Canada at least -- pressing quality vaired from country to country, which is why British, German or Japanese pressing were often imported at high prices.)
I gather vinyl is making some sort of comeback. New releases and golden olides are being pressed again, and there are places that sell them. There will always be a use for the CD I think. They're more portable and can be played in cars, for example. Those little MP3 chips have even *worse* sound...

Whatever you do, don't watch Transformers. For all the reasons you've already stated. And, no, I haven't seen it. But do I really have to?
I think the only thing I hated more than Adam Sandler in Bedtime Stories was Rob Schneider, who succeeds at being more obnoxious and less talented than Sandler. I liked the mermaids, though.
And I suspect there's actually a good film hiding in Eight Crazy Nights. Unfortunately, it's buried, quite literally, under a pile of sh*t. Seriously, take out the scatological humor and foul language -- in other words, everything that you'd expect from an Adam Sandler movie -- and you'd have a pretty good Holiday cartoon.
Adam Sandler got his first film break courtesy of Bobcat Goldthwait, who gave him a bit role in Shakes the Clown ("the Citizen Kane of alcoholic clown movies," as one critic put it). It's a bizarre and subversively funny film -- in spite of Mr. Sandler's presence. That one is definitely worth seeing.

A friend of mine said the first ten minutes of the first Transformers movie is entertaining -- whatever he meant by that exactly -- but the rest is just stupid. I trust his taste in such matters since I've known him for something like 40 years.
What is it with this whole generation of comedians? With rare exceptions -- Ricky Gervais is one -- their concept of humour is to drop one in their pants, or vomit on the rabbi's shoes at a Barmitzvah, or punt the wife's chihuahua into a wood chipper.
