Elementalists - 1 - Tulvar
A new project: Elementalists.
Core concept of elemental bending is heavily derived from the Avatar (The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra) universe, but there are a number of differences and distinctions between that and this story, so just because something works one way in Avatar doesn't mean its the same here, I just used the concept as a jumping off point to create my own system.
I'll reveal more later.

Spines of ice spread across the surface of the lake almost like lightning, before the water around them froze out into a platform. Tulvar stepped off the beach onto the ice, the foot or so of ice connecting the platform to the beach thawing immediately after his foot left it.
Tulvar concentrated, and brought his right arm forward and left arm backwards, fingers apart and slightly curved. He lifted his left arm and lowered his right, cupping the fingers of his right hand downward, and his left he pulsed in a rhythm, one finger after another. The sheet of ice thawed inward from the sides until only a few inches were left on either side of Tulvar’s paws, leaving him on a surfboard of ice, and the water swelled up beneath the back half while it swept aside in front of him. From there, shifting his arms and fingers, the otter glided himself across the lake, weaving himself around and even launching himself into the air just to summon a wave to catch him.
Nothing really thrilled him quite like the water, and controlling it was Tulvar’s highest pride. Any free moment with nothing else to do, he’d find himself back to the water practicing and challenging himself. The indigo lines across his body glowed and flashed as he moved around. Most water benders didn’t utilize their legs beyond simple stances, though also many focused on using ice to basically mimic earth bending for functionality. Tulvar thought that was ironic, because an earth bender’s power was pretty reliant on those heavy specific stances, bare paws in contact with the ground. Water bending didn’t, but that didn’t mean having unrestricted footpaws aren't useful. Just like the arms, the legs, feet, and toes, could channel too, with practice. Arms are easier, sure, legs are more powerful though.
Tulvar brought his arms down, and dropped his stance slightly, legs going wider, right paw curling his toes up, left paw imitating the rhythm his fingers had, drumming on the ice. He lowered himself back on his left leg then pushed out hard, while holding his arms casually behind his back. The water swelled hard and launched him off even faster, towards the shoreline. He saw a few figures there, grinned, and kept his arms back, riding the wave all the way there, modifying the wave so he would come to a stop directly in front of them.
