Hey noodle what did you do today?
Well I woke up at 6:50 and headed to the living room, where I had a dream that I mostly forgot, but it involved me waving a 48 star flag. I woke up at 9ish when grandma woke grandpa up, and we got him ready for the day. He was looking really rough, and as we got him changed he pooped soooo much...And he hadn't been eating, so I wondered if his body was clearing itself out. Grandma was worried that he wasn't peeing, so she called a nurse. I took a nodl nap while we waited.
The nurse (Christine) arrived around 12ish and they put a catheter in grandpa, and sure enough, he had a load of urine there and it looked pretty cloudy. Grandma was happy about that, and when the nurse left around 12:45ish I took another nodl nap.
I woke up at 3 and made a cheeseburg and some chips, then after eating I headed back to my room and did a little doodling while watching the tubes. I didn't do much, but I went back to the living room around 6ish. We got grandpa ready soon after, and once again he kept pooping. I figured at that point, he was basically just a living set of intestines. I didn't really have dinner, but I did eat a couple cheese sticks. I nebulized grandpa at 7:47 and then headed back to my room, where I did some doodling and tubes watching...
...Until I heard grandma shout “Kyle!”. It sounded like the kind of tone of voice that implied something was wrong, and in that moment I think I knew what had happened. I opened my door and grandma was leaning against a wall, crying. She said she thought grandpa had passed. I went to the living room and he was pale as a sheet. I looked for breathing, but saw none.
I called Vitas and told them about it. The lady was super nice, but it took a little longer than I would have liked for her to send a nurse out. After, I called dad and said it had happened. Then I went to the living room and sat with grandma while she inconsolably wept. Vitas called back sometime later, and the nurse said she'd be there in 45 minutes.
This was the longest 45 minutes in my life. I looked up at the clock, and saw it was 11:03. Long swathes of time took slow, steady strides across the Earth. Plants grew. Continents moved. Empires rose and fell and rose again. I looked back at the clock.
11:05.
Eventually the Nurse (Laura) arrived, and she was a breath of fresh air. She took grandpa's vitals, and I'll be honest, I was worried she'd find a pulse or heartbeat or something...But she confirmed that he was dead. The official time of death was 11:45, when she made the ruling. After that she chatted with grandma and did a lot to raise her mood. She was such a sweet woman, and she called the funeral home and got that ball rolling. I talked to mum and dad and told them that I wasn't sure what was gonna happen. I took the trash out after they'd removed his catheter, and while out there I saw an owl land on our mailbox. It screm.
I went back inside and Nurse-Laura left around 12:30ish. I sat in a chair beside grandma and we just chatted. She was getting phone calls from all sorts of her kids and that helped her keep her mind off of falling into despair, but when she wasn't on the phone with them I chatted a lot and kept her mind as busy as possible. At around 1:15ish the doorbell rang, and a pair of well dressed gentlemen with a gurney appeared. Javier was stout and about 6foot tall and had a beard. John was bald and was 6'10”...Taller than me! O:
They loaded grandpa onto the gurney and carefully strapped him in, then loaded him into their van...
...And then that was it. We were left alone. The bed looked weird, being empty. It was weird, being empty.
Weird night.
I went back to my room and tried to unwind while watching Joe Rogan interviewing Lazar (UFOs!) and playing KoL. As predicted I couldn't get to sleep until about 4 or # was a rough night.
I hope everyone has a night completely different from this one! <333
