Hey noodle what did you do today?
Well I woke up at 9:30ish and headed to the living room. After a brief pow-wow with everyone, I headed back to my room and opened the new gopro camera. I was debating whether or not I should go kayaking, but figured it was a really good day for it. While researching the kayak renatal place, dad called and I chatted with him for a bit about moving back home, then after I called the rental place. Apparently they dun deliver to shell island anymore (Dude just bought the company, and needs to sort that out on Google), but the Naples Outfitters people did! I called them up and had them deliver one to the area.
From there I left around 11:15 after Chris moved her car, then I headed to McD's for a super sized artisan chicken sammich meal with a conke. I ate and drank as I drove north, then I pulled into Shell Island road and leisurely putzed. While heading to the destination I saw a herd of about 5-8 wild boars, and I managed to snap a few pics of one, tho I had to back up to get the photo and by the time I had, most of them had fled into the woods. I continued onward, then saw a big tortoise just plopping around on the road. Since the speed limit was super slow he was easy to see and avoid, and I noticed other cars going around this Big Chonk.
The guy from Naples Outfitters loaded the kayak into the water, then after a bit of trouble putting the pedal thing in and a brief walk-through, I was off!
Th kayak was something completely amazing. It has these fins that move back and forth like penguin flippers, and react to back-and-forth feet pedals. To reverse you keep the pedals even and pull the 'REV' cable...To go forward, put them even and pull 'FOR'. The rudder is steered with a little horizontal lever on the left side.
I headed to the next part of the geocache trail, and managed to find #14 well enough, but #15 and #16 eluded me. 17 was easily found, then frands! Number 18 was my 1500th geo! Eeeee! :D
I continued along the trail missing a few here and there, but I managed to find all of them on the return trek (other than #15 and #16). I was getting so super sunburnt from the voyage, so I slathered on sunscreen as I returned, but the damage had been done. uwu
I used information from the geos to try and get to the final mystery stage, but when I put the codes in, the cords took me to the middle of the bay. I paddled out there to see if I could see anything, past an island forbidden to be set upon by humans (It was birb island!), but nuh, I could not. When I got to ground zero there, I got a call from the Naples Outfitter, asking if I'd be ready to turn in the kayak, since I told them I'd call around 4. It was perfect timing on their part, since I actually was just about to call them. I told them I'd meet them at Shell Island, then headed back toward the launch site. It was about .85 miles away, so I pretended my phone was a logpose from One Piece! Those mangroves are extremely maze-like and you need a map, but the long stretch of nothing let me imaginate and I thought about a group of pirates who row with their feet, and are so good at it, they sleep while rowing!
Returning was an arduous task but I got there just as the Outfitter truck pulled up. And older guy stepped out and asked if I could take off the pedal gear and raise the rudder and pull it up to the beach. I didn't mind, but holy hecc, my legs were jello! After getting all my stuff he wished me luck in life and headed out.
I got to my car and called my frand Ian at 4:44, since he had called exactly 10 minutes earlier as I was pulling into the launch point. I chatted with him as I drove, once more talking about farm stuff. I saw a slight waving shadow in my vision, so I drank more water.
I got back to Marco and returned home. I told grandma of my adventures and she told me to put bug and burn on my body, wait an hour, grab a shower, then put on more. I put on bug n burn, laid down on my bed...And conked out. I woke up about an hour later and grabbed a shower (Oh my burns!), then went to the common room. Grandma made some burgs and I ate one for dinner, plus her leftover sushi (5 pieces of Philadelphia roll). After eating and cleaning up I headed back to my room around 7:30ish and did a little typing before going to bed around 9ish. Early!
I hope everyone has a 1500th geocache finding day! <333
