Hey noodle what did you do today?
Well I woke up around 7ish as some rangers were putting up traffic cones around the lot where I had parked. One of the rangers told me good morning, and after briefly explaining, she let me drive past the cones and into the main lot. I did so, parked, and brushed my teeth in the nearby restroom. After that I meandered to the visitor center and found it absolutely packed. Like, horribly so. I managed to snag some parking, but holy crap!
I went inside for some goodies, then after I took a shuttle bus to other stops. I first checked out the museum, then headed to the Emerald Falls area at the lodge. I was kinda hungry so I grabbed a couple slices of pizza (Each $5.25...Oof!) and a Mr. Pibb. I ate outside under the towering cliffs, then grabbed a refill and headed to the Emerald Pools trailhead across the road.
The trail was much easier than the ones that were over a mile above sea level, and after about 25 minutes I was standing under a rock outcropping that was spewing water. It wasn't much, maybe only a gallon a second, but the winds would often blow the water onto the trail that went under the rocky outcropping. I stood under it for a minute or so, then continued down the trail...Only to find out it had been blocked by a fence due to a recent rockslide. Hecc.
I walked back and even managed to answer the question a couple of British gals had about the species of flower (Moon lily!), then walked on. An older lady's husband was having weak knees, so I stayed with their group, which included a younger couple as well, and made sure they were okay. I chatted with the younger husband about our respective areas (he was Michigan) and eventually we chatted about physics!
After we got back to the lodge, the older man introduced himself as Jim (I was carrying his bag for him and forgot, so when he grabbed for it I was slightly offput until I looked down and remembered), and his wife's name was Sue. The younger woman was named Sue as well and her husband was Mark. The younger couple's last name was Polish, and was spelled 'Czuj'. I bid them adieu and headed on.
I rode the bus to the furthest point in the line, andwhile doing so the bus driver told us about Angel's Landing trail, which seemed good...Until he said it was 1,500 feet up a sheer cliff with few holders and thin trails. NOPE! We stopped and looked up at the hikers, and you couldn't even see them!
The park was beautiful but a lot of rock slides seem to happen there! Stop Number 8 was closed due to rock slide. The last mile or so of the Emerald Pools trail was closed due to a rock slide. The bus driver showed us the remains of a massive one. He told us about one being filed on Angel's Landing by hikers. He told us about the river being diverted by one in the 90s, which caused the road to collapse and people to be stuck at the lodge a few extra days. Just...Holy hecc!
After riding to the end of the station I got off and took the tram back to the visitor center. Once there I went to the bathroom and headed back to my car, though I did see some brazen deer eating and drinking just feet from crowds of tourists. I took a photo or two, then got in my car and headed toward Nevada!
After clearing the canyons I called mum and chatted with her. She was babysitting Aunt Becky's grandkid. I then called grandma and told her of my journey plans. She told me to be careful and I promised I would.
I drove on to a gas station and used Discord to contact Aure and Sel, and told them I was en route to Las Vegas. While waiting I searched for a nearby geocache and as I was doing that, my frand Ian called. He had to go 100 miles to get a part for his wife's van and was annoyed. I was feeling pretty good awhile though, because I found the cache! It was a fake rock in a field of similar looking stones!
I went back to my car and entered the address for Sel's and Aure's house while chatting with my frand, but eventually he wanted to get Taco Bell and I wanted to navigate traffic, so I hung up. I did well with the traffic, then eventually got to their house and texted Brian and he came out and we introduced and then I got to meet his wife Natalie and her mum, who just moved to America from the UK! Ye! C:
I grabbed a shower and they took me to an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant, where I got like 8 half-rolls and some coke and miso soup and some green tea mochi and mango mochi! It was really good, and even though I wanted to pay Brian did so. Also he possibly knows 'bout dem aliums!
After eating they took me to the Vegas Strip, which was very scenic! I saw many iconic places and Aure was a good tour guide! After we returned home, I used their restroom and gave them hugs and we took a selfie and then I went to my car and plugged up my dying phone (4% battery life, let's go!), then headed to the town of Parump for a cheap hotel! The drive there was beset by 26 freaking miles of road work...What the hell is up with the shitty roads on this trip!?
I parked and got gas, where this super Republican guy (Had a gun and Trump sticker and the like) helped me figure out why my card wasn't working. After, I went to a hotel called “Saddle West”, which was only like $54 a night. When I got set up in my room I actually went to the lobby to gamble. I played a Konami slot called 'Dragon's Voyage” because it was appropriate. I put in $11 in total, and won $19.54... A net gain of eight and a half dollars! C:
I went back to my room (Number 222 in Building D) and did some typing and goobed off online for a bit. The wifi for that building was not working so I called the front desk, and they said that they'd been having trouble with that wifi for a while...Of course you have...Couldn't have been any other building. uwu
They did let me sign in to the hospitality wifi, password chuckwagon, and though it was weak, I was still able to watch tubes.
I hope everyone has a Las Vegas visiting day! <333
