Hey noodle what did you do today?
Well I woke up a couple times at night due to chilly conditions, but finally woke around 7. I brushed my teeth and then headed to the back alley to find that geo. It's a good thing I waited, because the trail led up a rocky hill through some of the scrublands. Amazing sight, and without geocaching I never would have known it was there. It was even labeled (Sarcen Hill Trail) and everything! How many visiting that rest area never see it?!
I spent the morning driving, then got some gas in Oregon before crossing into Idaho. I ate a ham sammich and some dorites and a breakfast bar. When I got to the Potato state I tried to find a geo beneath a sign on a side road (A dog borked at me!) but I don't think it was there, so I headed on to an old rest stop. This place had a lot of old road signs being stored, and the cache was under some trees that had batts living in them...I heard them, but didn't see them. I grabbed the cache and a smol plastic flower from within, then headed on the road!
I stopped for gas a couple times, but I kept forgetting to get food, so around 2ish I pulled into a town. I was following Google to a DQ, but it said there was a Pizza Hut, so I had that instead! A large mushroom pizza with extra cheese! I ate the whole thing while listening to the Catholic radio station. When I next got gas it was near the Wyoming border, and was pretty windy! I used the bathroom (Saw a sign for one of the tribes' locals, who'd been missing for over a year...I hope he's okay!), then on I went!
I passed through the city of Yellowstone, then into the park...But I missed my opportunity to get a Montana cache! I even passed through part of the state! I turned around and left the park, stopped at a little visitor center, then grabbed a cache about the area's history (Got a marble thing from inside). After that I returned to the park and navigated the winding roads in the dusk, then dark...And holy cow, there are steaming and smoking spots everywhere! Also I saw bison!
I got to the parking lot of Old Faithful and parked, then walked over to the geyser. It was a bit cool and I had to pee, so it felt like a stealth mission in Metal Gear Solid...I had to avoid people with flashlights and headlamps on cars, but never fear, I let-loose my geyser behind a tree. I meandered the area and chatted with a couple other tourists, then went inside the lodge. The gift shop was still open so I grabbed some swag, as well as a post card to send myself to prove my current address. I considered staying in the lodge, but they said it closed at 10, so I bought some batteries (My mouse's batteries had died), then went back to my car. I spent some time chatting with frands as my phone gradually died (Despite being plugged in). When I got to 3% battery life I got a knock on my window...Turns out I wasn't allowed to sleep in the parking lot. The rangers/cops (Not sure which they were?) asked if I'd been smonking the weed or drinking, and I said nuh. I showed them my cooler as well. I think my cooperation led them to feeling sorry for me, and they said I could go to the campground I'd passed on the way in and park at site 195 and sleep.
So I drove 16 miles back the way I had come, found the campground, then after doubling back once I found the spot in question. I parked and fell fast asleep.
I hope everyone has a Yellowstone arrival day! <333
