Hey noodle what did you do today?
Well I had a dream that giant worms from space invaded the planet and took over the oceans, apocalypsing everything. This caused Alaska to go into Supervolcano mode, and this African woman told us a story about how Zimbabwe used to be a super volcano, but because it was so hot and magmatic it spawned all the rest of Africa. It then cut to the ancient past, where there were streets and malls and stuff, and it followed a woman and two kids as they tried scrambling over the ruins of their old civilization as they tried to escape the carnage and find safety in Malawi. The dream cut back to the present and most people had died, but some of the people wanted to try their fortunes at sea so they got in a vessel and headed out, but a bunch of mechanical worms with 3 clasping prongs rose from the water and began pecking away at them and their ship...And then I woke up! I went to the bathroom then returned to sleep.
Eventually I wound up waking up around 8:45, then headed downstairs. I had some OJ and cleaned out my car a bit, and then around 10ish grandma and I set off to visit her sister. I put in the directions to Google, but as soon as we got to Colerain Street (the very first road), she wanted us to turn right instead of left. Thus began a slightly augmented series of directions, half grandma's, half google's, interspersed with being told the locations of stores and homes and streets that “used to be there”, but no longer exist. It was a little discombobulating, but I managed to navigate outside the city and into some very, VERY rural area.
We got to grandma's sister's house a little before 11ish. She's living with her daughter and can still move a little, but largely uses a walker to make minimal movements and is mostly blind. Grandma chatted with her for a little and I could tell it was very emotional. Her sister pretty much nailed it: “This will probably be the last time we see each other.”. She's not wrong. Grandma's turning 85 this year, her sister's going to be 88 (She mistakenly thought she was only gonna be 86), and they're living on opposite ends of the country. Once grandma returns to Florida, I doubt she'll ever want or need to return to Cincinnati ever again. I felt pretty bad because before they parted, I was going to suggest they get a photo, but didn't. After we left, about 10 miles down the road, grandma remembered she forgot to get one...Dang. :T
We headed back to Colerain and traveled back down the main drag as we attempted to look for a Frisch's. Just as we were getting desperate and about to turn to Google, it appeared in the distance. We parked (using grandma's handicap tag), then went inside. It was very very busy, but we were able to sit at the bar and order some Big Boys. I had tatertots with mine and a Conke. Grandma just had the sammich and lemonade, then because she was cold from the AC blowing directly down upon her (She had to move to my other side), she got a coffee. For dessert we both had a slice of coconut cream pie!
After that we went to a Kroger's that had a fifth-third bank attached. I was gonna park at the building's side, but grandma told me that the truck on my side was too close and so she wanted me to move. We went and parked in a handicap spot once more, and she grabbed a cart for stability and pushed it into the bank section (Almost running over a gal), and into the store. We had a notary fill out the paperwork for the car's title, then I went to the bathroom. I was a little lost in the store looking for it, but it turns out it was hidden behind a pair of swinging double doors (the kind that look like only employees should enter), then when I finished grandma was practically right outside the bathroom. I was gonna try to go grab a geo in the parking lot, but that is fine too!
We slowly meandered down every. Single. Aisle. Of. The. Store. We got stuff I know we don't need, but because grandma is addicted to shopping, I just followed along. After getting a cart-full and loading my car, we headed back home and put the groceries away. It was about 3:30 when we finished, and we both decided to take naps.
I woke up at about 5:30 and after going to the bathroom I browsed my phone. My Jeep-frand called and we chatted for about 15 minutes. I heard grandma calling me and she told me there were deer in the backyard, and by that time he decided he'd call back at another time. I went downstairs and for dinner I had the leftover lamb chop, leftover boil potates, leftover asparagus, leftover piece of chicken, and made a milkshake to go with it all. After eating I cleaned up then grabbed a shower before heading back to my room and doing some doodling and typing and chatting with frands. I wound up staying up until about 2:30.
I hope everyone has a Grandma-sister visiting day! <333
