So this year I will be working as staff at Confuzzled 2010 in Manchester, and was approached by the conbook team in order to produce one of the images for a 2 page spread.
The theme is science, and my image is of Galileo. In extreme brief, he was persecuted by the Roman Catholic Church for implying that the Earth was not the centre of the Universe.
There were three elements to the drawing, the background, Galileo, and the Cleryman. This is a flat image yet to be shaded version of the cleryman

The official reason for it being an over 18's actually has nothing to do with the theme, but it is to do with insurrance policies. It is actually more expensive to insure the convention on an under 18 basis. As the majority of the target market is over that age group, it has been done as a cost saving exercise. Whilst that can be incredibly frustrating from people in your position, unfortunately, we are a non profit organisation and therefore, where ever a cost can be saved, it has to be considered, and this unfortunately seems to be the most logical decision.
However, the good news is that come your 18th year, and Confuzzled 2010, we will be in our 4th year, and with more experience! So hopefully, it will only serve to give you a better overall experience for your first time.
As for the theme for next year, it has not been decided at this time :)

The themes are usually always announced at the end of this years convention. This is non optional from the attendees point of view in that we decide the theme and work around it. If people decide to wear costumes to suit the theme, this is highly encouraged as its always nice to see people getting into the atmosphere of things :) I did just that for this years Eurofurence:
