My hotel was about three blocks along the Embarcadero from this place, the Ferry Building. It's the keystone of the Port of San Francisco, and a masterpiece of reinforced concrete.

But wait! I hear you say; didn't you say earlier that you were running on only two hours of sleep?

Indeed I was, but I was also missing my daily exercise, so rather than flake out entirely as it was only 1 in the afternoon I put on my sneakers and hit the bricks.

The Ferry Building's got an arcade of restaurants and trendy food shops, some of which are rather pricey. There's an artisanal farm-to-field meat store, ditto for cheese, and a chocolatier named Miette where you can get delicious and exotic macaroons (if you don't mind paying $2 for one of these - don't judge me, they were effing Delicious).
