Yes, I made it to the intersection of Haight and Ashbury. Yay. Lots of little shops and stores, and yes, homeless people.
Homeless people are a part of city life, no matter where you live (hell, I have homeless people in my town). Some of the ones I saw in Haight-Ashbury had pet dogs with them.
On balance, I found the area to be rather tacky, getting by on the remaining luster that the Summer of Love forty-two years ago shed on the district, so I pushed on west along Haight to the entrance of Golden Gate Park.
Yes, I was still on foot.
