Last picture for Day Two, I promise.
I had lunch at the Beach Chalet's restaurant, and not feeling very hungry I had something off the appetizer menu.
This is ahi tuna poké (sushi-grade tuna dressed with soy, rice wine vinegar and a few other seasonings), topped with sesame seeds, micro greens, daikon radish, and a sriracha crema. In the background, jicama chips and the establishment's Veteran's IPA beer.
I like to try new things when I go traveling, and I've never had either of these things. So I tucked in, and forced myself to eat slowly so I could enjoy the meal. The tuna was flavorful, the crema gave it a nice bite, and the jicama chips were delicious. The beer wasn't bad.
After lunch I assessed my situation and decided that I'd be damned if was going to walk uphill again that day, so I went north two blocks and picked up a bendy streetcar on Fulton. This got me to the transit center about three blocks from my hotel, where I relaxed a bit before going to dinner.
Dinner involved MORE uphill hiking, as the California Street cable car had left before I could board it. Damn.
I walked up California, then to Kearny, north into Chinatown to eat at the House of Nanking restaurant. The place has been there since the 80s, and the interior looks it. But you don't come for the decor, you come for the food, and one of the people on Wonkette recommended the place to me.
To say I staggered out, full, would be an understatement. I had their steamed pork dumplings and the bao bing wrap (think of it as a fajita; you put it together yourself) with a Tsingtao lager to wash it down. I couldn't finish it all, and after settling the bill I wended my way - back downhill - to the hotel.
Total walking distance: 27 kilometers (nearly 17 miles).
